Ok So im new to the world of geckos. I recently got the means of building them a moist hide but im not sure if I did it right. What I did was take a sandwich size tupperware. I layed a warm moist papertowl on the bottom of it and then I took Flukers moss wet it in warm water and rung it out then put that in there kind of around the sides leaving a bit of the paper tpwel exposed in the center. Then I cut a hole about 2-3 thicker than my gecko in the corner of the lid. On top of the lid I have a stick/log hide that leaves the hole and area around it exposed. I then built up the sand substrate to the lid of the tupperware. Does this sound ok.

thaqt sounds fine except for the sand. from what i've heard, sand is really bad for leos and can cause them to become impacted. dig around the forums a little, i am by no means an expert on the subject

From what I picture from your description
it sounds good, if you will ditch the sand and buildup with slate,
rocks, etc. take care. Hj

Yah I know sand is bad but its calcium sand so its the best they can get, I just always thought the cage if I coved it in paper towels or newspaper like reccomended. I kinda nudged my leo toward it but she didnt seem interested she kinda walked upto the ledgeof itand then ran away because she saw me again, yah if you cant tell she hates me :(.

calcium is the worst, as all other sand.

What how is calcium the worst it dissolves in their digestive track if swallowed, well dissolves more.

You can absorb some minerals out of regular sand if you ate it. Calcium is just another mineral. But the point is it will not be fully digested and can cause impaction. You are aware of the risks, and nobody can stop you from using sand, so do what you feel is best.

Anyways the moist hide sounds awesome, and just spend time hanging out around your leo's tank. She'll get used to you over time. :)

I would steer clear of calcium sand or any other sand for that matter. They say you can use it on adult Leo's but I have yet to find enough information to prove that it does not cause impaction. And I know for 100% sure that it should not be used on Juvie Leo's. This is my opinion and I am just trying to save you the money for vet bills or whatever could happen to the Leo's from the sand

Actually Calci Sand semi disolves into the digestive track. Kinda turns into a sludge. Imagine a hair cloging the drain. That's about what Calci Sand equates to.

Thanks,

Also because the calcium is within the sand, the leos are more tempted to eat it causing them to ingest more sand than they would have with regular sand. Also a good test is take the sand and put it in a jar of water for 20 mins, this is how they test to see if vitamins are good or not because if they dissolve within the 20 mins then they are being put to good use if they don't then they are just passing through your body. so I assume You could see how it will be in the leos digestive system but I know animals can sometimes have stronger acids so maybe make the time less
