I showed her pictures and let's just say she doesn't like anything that looks like a snake. :main_laugh: She said the orange gecko looks kind of cute. :main_laugh:..The other gecko she said this may take me awhile to get used to.
My mom is so very afraid of getting something from my Gecko's..If all of you could make a post so she can see from other gecko owners they are good pets and don't carry a bunch of things like salmonella, though this could be where they do but there is no risk of her getting sick, this would help..So she is comfortable about me having both Gecko's in her place for awhile.

Then I can show her this message board, so she can see these are safe and loving pets, with a lot to offer. Thanks!

Gecko's are amazing pets, they don't poop all over the kitchen floor, they don't chew or claw the sofa, don't make a mess of your new carpet, don't bring fleas or ticks into the house, they're low maintenance, they can be really friendly ... almost affectionate to their carers (people say they don't bond to people, but I disagree). Not to mention they're adorably cute.

The only drawback with geckos is that you have to feed them insects, would be much better if they'd eat something out of a tin, but hey, what can you do :)

Once you go Gecko ... you'll never go back :)

My mom said is ok to bring the Gecko's, though I don't know if she like the idea too well but I'm not leaving them behind, so she gonna have to get used to them.

It's been this way with my mom's side of the family
They're horrified of snakes, but when they met the leos for the first time they melted into a gibbering pile of "oooh you're so cute I just want to eat you up!"

Leopard Geckos have quickly become my favorite reptiles to keep. They are easy to care for and for the most part are very docile. I keep over 50 myself, and many people have more than that, so from my standpoint the two in question should be a breeze to keep and care for. HI MOM! :main_laugh:

Well, I know how it is to have a mom who isn't exactly thrilled about having reptiles at all, let alone a gecko. I hope my story can help your mom be more open minded with geckos. I spend weeks trying to convince my mom to allow me to get a gecko. After a long time talking and explaining some of the general care information she finally said okay. So, Kiya came into the family this past November. After a week or so my mom wanted to hold her, and so I let her, thinking maybe this would be a break through. XDD After a month or so my mom came into my room when she got home from work and she started talking to Kiya. She was telling her that she was her baby. LOL! Well, in January Kiya got really sick and ended up passing away. My mom came home once again from work, and I told her that Kiya did not make it and she started to cry. I hugged her and she was telling me that she loved her. For the next couple weeks when she came into my room and saw Kiya's environment empty you could see the pain on her face.

My mom loved Kiya, she was part of the family. We would have missed out if my mom hadn't given geckos a chance. They are wonderful animals and every bit as loveable as dogs or cats are.

Now my mom is talking about getting a gecko of her own!

As far as salmonella goes, this is a risk with any reptile. However I did a little searching around on this site and google and I figured out Leos are less likely than, say, a turtle to be carrying this disease. However, mishandling raw meat can make you just as, if not more, sick. I'm going to assume your mom knows this and still cooks meat.

It all boils down to safe hygiene practice. IMO if she was willing to take a risk changing poopy diapers who knows how long ago, then a tiny critter confined to a cage that she doesn't have to touch should be no worries. ^_^

My mom thinks the orange gecko is cute. I sent her pictures. The other
gecko is more snake looking, though she said might take her awhile to get used to that one. I do agree gecko's are like cats and dogs in the sense you can really love those little gecko's. My mom is willing to give them a chance though.
