This is my new girl..not well at all and i wanna cry for her. I just got her an hour ago and wanted to slap the previous owner for not seperating her from the male a long damn time ago..so I have been working for a while on the stuck shed on her toes as wel as her head (no moist hide in viv as she said she thought it would prevent them from breeding)..got just about all off her head but a tiny piece near her mouth..problem number one...one of her eyes will no longer shut because of the shed stuck on it too long (I have no idea how long) the previous owner said she just shed but I know better. I have no saline for her eye..water be ok? I have well water no additives. I think it might get infected. The previous owner also said they had mated (idiot!) she weighs 22 grams and he weighs 60 well duh! so hopefully she doesn't become gravid as i think (almost positive) it would kill her to try to pass em tho i see no eggs in her. She tried to what looked like poop but acted constipated and used a little extra virgin olive oil to give her maybe to help it pass. I pulled off the jumpers of a cricket and put it in her cage as well as a small bowl of mealies to see if she would eat (not expecting this cause i just got her) although she showed a little interest in it but did not eat it. I placed her in her own 10 gal tank and gave her a dry hide and moist hide. All the viv stuff was grossly dirty so I washed it all. She is now in her moist hide as I don't blame her a bit. Any suggestions please let me know. I just started with geckos last month and am new but have read and read everything i can. I want to save her if i can but I also do not want her to suffer. Thanks fro reading my long post

I'm glad she's in much better hands now! If her eye is infected she may need antibiotics to clear the infection or it will just progress. If it's not infected and you have a good relationship with a regular dog/cat vet, you might be able to ask them for a tube of NeoPolyBac. It's an eye ointment that will prevent the eye from drying out if it can't close all the way. It's commonly used for all kinds of animals after eye surgery. Ideally she should see a vet to find out what all of the issues really are. I don't know if rinsing with well water would make it worse (probably not, but it does have a lot of minerals in it) but if you can get some Saline solution, do. Good luck!

Update...

been a couple days now and i force fed her two mealies as well as slurry..no vomiting but she is very dehyfrated..she licks water from my fingertip and her bad eye seems to be better..she can close it now so maybe it will be fine. I have been soaking her to help her get the shed off her feet but what a mess..got most of it then she decided to shed again yesterday so just added to what i was already getting off..been staying in her moist hide constantly..do they absorb moisture thru their skin? (thought I read this somewhere) anyhow she has tried to pass what i think is urate but not sure as I know the previous owner (and this makes me so mad considering her condition) let him mate with her like this..I hope its not bad eggs cause am afraid that would kill her. She hasn't got much energy so pushing whatever it is out she is having a har time doin..I'm not sure if this is going ot work but no vets in my area deal with exotics/reptiles at all I would have to drive 40 miles away just to get her to one ..they won't even euthenize if it came to that so I will do what i can. Like i said she is not vomiting or anything adn I assume if she is passing(or trying to pass) that her internal organs are working? Will keep you posted further when i know more..that woman makes me so mad :main_angry:

(((((((HUGS))))))))) Just don't give up on her. You'll be amazed how strong they can be when they realize they are wanted again. My very first leo was sooo sick, and so thin I had very little hope for her, but she pulled through, and so will yours.

Good job getting her out of there. I get just as upset in situations like that.

thanks Jess.. I feel so sorry for her she seems to want to live so I am goin to do everything I can. Her good eye is pretty bright but only opens it all the way when i bother her otherwise it's only half open. I know her body will want to rest a lot during the healing process I just hope I was in time for her *crosses fingers*
