My Project! I only hope it will work

Now the rule is 10 gallons per leo correct, so like a 20 long can hold two geckos because it's floor space is equal to that of a 30 gallon.

So heres my project but I want to make sure it can hold all 6 of my geckos :)

I have a white shelf with the dimensions of 44"w x 11"H x 9" deep
it has three of these shelves.

Now the square inchage of a 10 gallon aqua. is 200 in^2, but you say it's okay to house adult geckos in 16qt tubs which are 117 in^2, hmmmm so if this holds true and you all say the geckos are fine that would mean that the area of one shelf can hold .......

44
X 9
------
396
/117 = 3.4

Therefore 3 geckos can fit on one shelve, correct? Now to maximize this space further, I can add a second level so I now have double the floor space correct but still keep it at the 3 geckos, no more than that will be housed together.

But here is the shelf

Then I will add plexiglass screens with hinges on the bottom and a lock on the top or a magnet lock with gecko handles like --->

The homes can be opened 6 different places, so If I wanted to split them down the middle where the bar is, I can, as to seperate my 2 males and my geckos that are to little to be housed together. :)

I will also have to find someway to put in the heating pads, have any ideas? The wood is to thick to place underneath, I can't have them directly on it..What if I used tile and placed them underneath the tile? That still leaves me with the issue of the cords.

Okay well, I want to here your guys ideas and stuff :) and please if you have critism... say it nicely okay. THanks :)

I think it sounds Neato. And as far as the cords.. Drill a Nice SMall Hole on the Bottom.. that you could put the cords through.. But not much bigger then the cord itself. :)

only problem is that the end of the cord has that honkin big plug in and the otherside has the heating pad....hmmm

you want to cut a hole big enough for the end of the plug to fit threw. Then use aquarium silicone (the kind they use in dart frog habitats) and seal up the hole so that the geckos cant get through.

you could drill a hole the size of the cord, and cut the plug off making sure to leave enough cord on the plug to reattach (about 6-8" should be fine). Feed the cord attached to the heating pad through the hole and then splice them back together on the other side. youre going to have a big ugly mess of silicone if you try to silicone a hole the size of the plug...

you wont have too big of a mess if you do it slowly, start on the edge, let it dry, than continue in like that. It will take awhile, but I think it is easier than splicing, I dont think I could figure that out, lol

I wouldn't splice a power cord if you've never done it before. Terrible suggestion, guys.

Splicing is an art/skill, and it definitely should not be tried on a power cord for someone's first time. Fire/electrocution are definite risks.

Just my $.02

if not aligned correctly the wires will heat up and A. be ineffecent as hell and B. possibly burn down your house.

I would suggest just buying whatever you need to get things done unless youv dealt with electricity a good bit.

they make plastic hole plugs with small slots in them for that exact perpose. they look like a C. any hardware store should carry them. but get them first cause the hole has to match. the geckos wont be able to get through the slot
