My Rat Died :(

Well me and my Sister picked up 2 rats from a reptile show that were going to become food for pet snakes so we took those 2 home. They were both fine though we noticed that the Male was snipping on the female and they were about 15 days old so i decided to move the male out for the night, I had just got back from school 2 hours ago and i found her dead lying next to the food bowl. We had let him in before we went to school in the morning but i seriously Doubted murder because rats are supposed to be friendly.
I was thinking about a bunch of reasons of why she may have died and if its possible to revive a Rat the same way dogs and cats can be revived some times.

I was pumping blood and kept using my thumb to make the heart move every 5 seconds for about 30 min but i wasnt getting any results. I had to put her in a box with her Bedding and covered her with it except for her head. So i cant say im very happy at the moment :( Any way any one want to help me decide which death was most likely the reason for her death. I dont want to buy another rat and have the same thing again.

Reasons:
Murder, He wanted to be Number 1 and have more space. They were in a hamster cage and he was sort of snipping at her but maybe that was friendly or grooming.
Disease: Maybe she had caught some disease and it had become fatal and she died or he killed her and wanted the suffering to stop. I was reading earlier that they take care of each other like Rats who can see take care of blind rats but im not sure if i remember if they care of the sick rats.
Starvation: I gave them food as soon as we got home but could she have been too weak? Her body is currently super skinny and she stuffed her face as soon as she got home. The guy said that they would only survive 2 - 3 more days but that was probably because they had not been fed in a while and they were meant to be snake food as soon as possible.

Revival Theory:
I was also reading on Yahoo answers ( I had no where else to look ) that you could use two batteries and shock the heart. I wasnt sure if that would work but any one have any reviews on that idea? I think its too late for the Rat. I have no chance at saving her now. It could have been 6 Hours since her death for all i know.

I'm sorry to hear about your loss.

There is no way to revive an animal that has been dead for more than a few minutes unfortunately. Even then it is virtually impossible unless the circumstances are perfect.

It is really had to say why it happened- and rats aren't something I've had a ton of experience with. My guess would be that they weren't old enough to survive away from the mother. I believe rats are normally weaned after three weeks - if they are 15 days they were probably immature. That is the only reason I can think of that the seller would tell you they'd only survive a few days.

I mean, I had a theory that she had gotten weak and he had begun canabalizing her because there was the brownish - yellowish stuff deep in her fur around her neck. She had plenty of Fur just small size, About the size of a Hamster.
What do you mean Immature? Does that mean the male may die too? We named the female sugar :(

Since they only had about 2-3 days left it could have just been her health that she didn't make it. Then again Male and females can be aggressive to each other so it could have murdered it.I have had two rats when I was little they were male and female but I didn't know it one night the mom gave birth to about thirteen baby's and they were adorable. Since my family decided to move I couldn't keep them and brought them to a pet store so that's my experience. Sorry about your loss. I posted a month or two ago about my mouse's death so I sorta know how it feels. Unfortunately I couldn't revive him though but sorry for your loss.

Not sure if this helps but here is a care sheet for caring for "orphaned" rats. It may help with the male. I can't say if he'll be ok or not but he may need some special care as they aren't normally separated from the mother until they are about 5 weeks old (except in the case of feeders).

Hope that helps - please keep us posted.

Yeah we burried her last night, Thanks for the advice Kelly and Crested. We only had her and him for 2 days but every second we had with her counted :( We still miss her.
By the way I just looked at the Article you sent me and well im not sure i made it clear on how old he is. I was guessing he was around 15 - 20 Days because his fur is fully there like the other rat's fur was and they have been eatting Solid food and drinking from the water. Though i think the Caresheet is awesome and if i do get another Rat and they have a litter and she lets one them go i'll know what to do ;)

Sorry for your loss! :( I'm sure she had a happy life, if short, and much better than it would have been if she was purchased as a feeder...I hope the male does ok!

Thanks Amanda, And yeah she probably had a better death then the one that would have probably came to her. Im sure a Snake digging his teeth in to her skull wouldnt have been a death she would like to recall up from Heaven =/

Commercial hamster cages are way too small for any rodent. They were probably getting territorial due to the lack of space they were given. Then again, feeder animals are bred to live short lives. Sorry about your loss. :(
