Hey everyone, I just wanted to show off my new guy, Stitch! He's currently in my 6th grade classroom as the class pet. He seems to be doing great, eats a bunch, is very active, and hopefully soon he'll be comfortable enough for me to hold him. The only thing I'm concerned about right now is he had a tough shed last week. He has still not gotten some off from around his mouth. His snout area is very red because of it. He doesn't allow me to help much, just snaps at me. He's eating and acting okay, but I just want to be sure everything is okay. Hopefully the next shed won't cause any problems. He won't use his humid hide!

Okay, here are some pics. I'm assuming he's a Mack Snow. So cute!

My humid hide is a piece of tupperware tall and wide enough for him to fit in. I put papertowel in the bottom of it and dampen it every couple days, more so when he's shedding. I just switched over to this bigger humid hide this time, and moved it closer to the hot side, right next to his hot hide. So hopefully this time around will be different. For heat I am using an infrared heat lamp and UTH pad. Temp stays between 85 and 92 at all times on that side.

I started using sphagnum moss in mine and i haven't had a single shedding problem since. Which is miraculous for two of my lizards that were always lefts with socks, masks, and hats

I agree, and recommend replacing the paper towel with some sort of substrate such as peat moss, vermiculite, sphagnum moss to hold the moisture better.

How are you measuring your temps?

I've had luck with Coco coir as well. Its cheap, easy to work with and can be found at any major pet store.

Coco coir is naturally anti-fungal, anti-microbial and anti-bacterial.

Thanks everyone! I am measuring my temp with a digital thermometer on the hot side. The probe reaches all the way down to the floor so I know the ground temp.
