First of all, I have officially hatched my 400th leopard gecko of the season but I don't want to shoot myself yet. I have all but the <3 day old babies in individual shoeboxes. Unfortunately, still no Bell Blazings or Bell Patternless. I have this theory (part of it is pessimism) that Bells can not be het for Blizzard as I have YET to prove out a single possible het from that project. I'm going to hold back several double hets this year and set them up in trios next season.
On a more personal note, the doctor started me on my second medication and I feel GREAT. (can you tell by all my post whoring?) I'm still a little worried about the whole no inhibitions thing because I'll probably say some really stupid stuff. It kinda feels like riding a bike with no hands. Either way, it's really helping with the anxiety over moving and my energy level has gone way up, which helps with keeping up with all the geckos while I'm trying to get things packed up and stuff.
As far as moving goes... I got my trailer that I ordered on Friday. It's great. BUT, I ran into a problem I wasn't expecting. The trailer has electric brakes which require the tow vehicle to have an electric brake controller. Normally, that's not a big deal, because you just install a controller on the truck, and then the trailer has brakes. However, my truck is the ONLY vehicle manufactured so far that is incompatible with electronic brake controllers because of it's "advanced electrical system." Fuck. Apparently there is a way to massacre the wiring to make it work, but it's a huge clusterfuck and I can't find anyone to do it, and I'm not competent to do it myself.
So, I'm going to have to borrow my mom's truck if I want the trailer brakes to work. I've towed the trailer empty behind both trucks to test it out, and it'll stop okay, but after increasing it's curb weight of 2400 lbs to a gross weight of 6500 lbs loaded, it wouldn't be safe. My mom doesn't mind switching vehicles for a while, but she's got to get the controller installed on hers. HOPEFULLY, she'll be able to get it installed on Tuesday morning so that I can still load up the trailer and leave sometime on Tuesday. I'm having some furniture delivered on the 31st to the new house, and I have maintenance/installation shit scheduled on the 1st. Only one brother is coming with me on this trip, but we're going to stay longer than last time to hopefully get more painting done. We're also going to be replacing some woodwork and tearing out carpet to put wood floors in the gecko rooms and "Marcia's Room." lol
So, I bet some of you are wondering how the fuck I'm going to take care of roughly 600 geckos while I'm gone. Well, let me just say that my mom is the coolest person ever. She's taken care of them on my previous trips to CA and TX. She drives all the way from her house about 50 miles away and does an AWESOME job with all the geckos, despite never really having much reptile experience. She's so smart, and so good with the animals. She's pretty much the only person I trust to not fuck up my record keeping which I'm really anal about. She's just an amazing person. At the age of 55 she's physically stronger than any other female I know, and she mows her own lawn which is roughly 2-3 acres. (part of that however, is that my older brother still lives at home and is essentially useless and never helps her.) Anyhow, I could go on and on, but ... yeah.
I'm hoping to get the new house as prepped and ready as possible before bringing the geckos down, because once they're there and I'm all alone, I won't have time for house projects--especially when school starts in the Fall. I probably won't be posting any geckos for sale until after I've moved, because I just don't have the time now to be taking pictures, updating my website, and shipping out packages.
Sorry this was so long. I don't mind if nobody reads it I'm just spewing today.
