I'm going to be grouting the surface today, and then sealing it once it's dry, I'll update pics as soon as I can. I've gotten a lot farther with it, I'm excited it's almost there!

what did you use to stick the styro to another styro? the first pick to be exact, whats that white thing that's holding them together?

Hey snake devil,

I see that you already caught the gecko bug.:main_yes:

I used a colored tile grout bought at ACE. I a cement sealer called plexi-bond. I did this for my tarantula enclosure, but I have yet to create one for my gecko.

i know you, hahahahha!! :D im with nick and benj the other day at mangsky's place, you should've dropped by.. :) nyway, so a colored tile grout and a cement sealer(plexi-bond).. i'll keep those two in mind... any specific brand? im worried about the toxins it might cost.. and what's the plexi-bond? do you also use a styro then wrap it with grout? or you make one solid object out of grout? :) thanks ninno!

it doesn't matter what type of tile grout you use, if you use a powder you're just going to add water and you can use different layers of gradiating thickness by adding more or less water. I personally used 3 different colors of pre-mixed, but it's all the same end product. The grout sealer needs to be water based that way it won't be toxic to the geckos. I used the tutorial that Wendy (Goreptiles) wrote for the technique here .

Scott, my apologies if we seem to hijack your thread.

I used styro covered with grout. Learned it from arachnoboards , unfortunately the pictures were removed.

Here's the one I made last year

oh I like that! did you mix sand in with the grout to get that texture? I don't think I'd do that much sand with a gecko because I'd be afraid it'd flake off and get impacted

Yes that's sand, sprinkled while the grout is still soft. Once cured, I wash it off with running water to remove excess sand and to leach out whatever chemical from the grout and sealer.

I wouldn't use this texture on my gecko cage, he might get injured if he rubs himself against it during a shed.
