Hey.

I took Bling out today to crawl around on my bed. I had his dish of meal worms on the bed too. Iadded a few pinches of d3 calcium to/on the meal worms. By accident I added to much d3 calcium. Bling ran over to the dish with d3 and started licking up JUST the d3 calcium. Bling is the one with the MBD. His MBD is going away now. I took it away then put it in front of him again, he did the same thing just more meanly. Like he was trying to bite into it while lickin' it up.

He does not have or get nay non d3 calcium.

Why did he do this.

MBD is caused by lack of calucium, and D3. when you put the D3 in there he knew that he needed it, so he licked it up. Even if he no longer seems to have MBD, he may not be fully recovered. I would recommend putting a calucium with D3 dish in his cage for him. This way you know he is getting what he needs.

Hope this helps

He is still not over his MBD. But he is doing better than what he was before. I though it was not safe to put a dish of d3 calcium in their cage? I thought only non d3 calcium?

I will put a small dish with d3 in it for him. What if he licks up ALL the d3 that I put in his cage? Woun't he over douce on it? I plan to put the d3 in a peanut butter cover/lid. Is this okay.

And thanks you two for replin' so fast. That is why I love GF! :)

I keep normal calcium in the tank all the time and dust with the D3. The D3 calcium does lose its potency before normal calcium does. I think a dish of either is fine. As long as Bling can get to the calcium it doesn't matter what you put it in.

You can still see that he has MBD (In his front legs) But it is way better than what it was. So that is a good sigh. ;)

Alright. So I can leave a dish of d3 calcim in his cage all the time? Sorry for so many questions...

Do you think a peanut butter lid is okay to put the d3 in?

Alright. :)

I just put a dish with d3 in his cage. He went right over and started lickin' it up. Now he is laying over his UTH breaking down the meal worms he just ate. =-)

Thanks you guys!

woohoo! it sounds like bling is on the road to recovery!

Let him have as much calcium as he needs, check daily to make sure the bowl is full for him, even if it is calcium with D3... generally, they cannot overdose on the stuff... well, at least it has never been documented in a leopard gecko...

good luck with him!

Bling needs the calcium, leopard gecko's know what they need. For an example egg laying takes a bunch of calcium useage that's why you'll also see egg laying females eating a bunch of calcium, same case with your gecko.

Calcium with d3 is not dangerous.

I have for 2 and a half years kept a dish with d3 in it now. I have never had a leopard gecko captive born with me, or raised with me from young have MBD. Leopard gecko's are nocturnal therefore they cannot have light on them, the body needs more then once a week of calcium d3.

My vet, and a few others in buiser locations then I am have never experienced a case where a LEOPARD gecko has died from over dosage of d3.

MBD is from lack of calcium, you hear about MBD a lot when was the last time some body posted on here they had a leopard gecko actually DIE from an overdosage of calcium d3.

I'm almost positive in a previous post on this topic aswell Marcia stated that she used to put calcium with d3 into the cage at all times, and it was perfectly fine.

So know that all my leos have a dish of d3, do or should I still dust their food with d3. They are now feeding only on meal worms. Cheaper and easy to care for.

i don't dust my mealworms ever. They can get all the calcium and D3 they need from the dishes that i have in their cages. So, no, i don't think that you have to dust mealworms any longer.

Ah! Sweet! The dust never does stay on the meal worms anyways (even if I do wet them down first). That is some very exiting news for me! That makes my life so much easier. Because I have other that I have to dust their food ever Tues. and Tues. Wooo Hooooo!!!

Thank you!!
