I am not sure what to get... I am getting 11.5 foot heat cable from lllreptile.com and I don't know if I should get the Zoo Med Rheostat 150 Watts. Or the Zilla 500 Watt Temperature Controller. What do you guys think? I need to know, cuz I am going to be heating plastic bins for a breeding rack. So, thanks in advance!!!

11 foot? thats pretty long i though you were only getting a few leos. You should test how much you need with a bit of string or someithing.

And check the wattage of the cable and whatever else is going to be plugged into your stat, if it exceeds 150w then you need the next size.

Is there heat cable smaller than that? All I know is that it is cheaper that heating pads... AND the first 6 feet are cold chord.

I got a 27m heat cord for only 20.00 ...works fine switched to it a few days ago and I like it better then a heatpad and the zoomed rheostat but if you starting a breeding rack better to use a thermostat and ..a thermostat for any heating is the best anyways.

Ok! Thanks! I am getting the 11.5 foot one because only 5 feet is heated. And I am getting an Alife 1000 watt electronic thermostat with probe. Do you think it is safer than heatpads? I think is is safer AND cheaper!

Out of 11 feet why is only 5 heated? That means you're paying for less than half of that 11.5 feet as functioning cable, what's the rest? Trash? That sounds like a gyp and a waste of money and space.

what... no its not. if its the zoomed one your looking at, ive got the 12m (40 feet) one.. and only the first like metre is cold chord... nowhere near half of it.
so the 3m one i reckon only like 50cm might be cold.

And maybe get the next size up then. there is a 16 foot one.

I think I am getting a lot more out of it. It is only $12! And it will heat 5 feet! A heating pad that only heats 2 by 4 inches is at least 12 or 15 dollars! I am really starting to like the cord better than the UTH. It's really cheap too.

In my experience, the zoomed heat cord isn't worth it. It's not efficient. I've tried both flexwatt and heat cord, and flexwatt is far more bang for your buck. The cord does not provide enough heated surface area with one pass of it in most climates, and several passes are needed to maintain temps in a rack. With heat tape, you need one length per shelf, it's flat so there's no routering required, and it can be cut to any length to suit.

Yeah, IMO, flexwatt VS heat cord, Flexwatt wins, no contest.

Yeah, but I only will have 4 geckos and I am planning on running it through like 2 times and putting tin foil over it. And how can I connect more than one row of heat tape? I only have 3 levels that I need to heat...
