I put my virgin male leo in with my ovulating and receptive female. He lunges clamps on to the female and then releases her. There is no vibrating tail and no attempt at copulation on his part.He has done considerable physical damage to her before i could stop him.Its understandable if there was copulation but there was no sign on his part he wanted to mate.Any suggestions??

I would recommend taking him out, maybe putting some of her poop in his cage so he gets used to her smell and re-introducing them later. Are you sure she's ovulating? It may happen that he just isn't going to be a good breeder because he's too aggressive. It's not something I've ever experienced with my geckos.

Thanks Aliza

Yes I am sure she is ovulating. She was very receptive to him. When he decided to chomp on her I was expecting the biting from the tail to the neck which didnt happen. He then released her.I have now put some of her stool in with him and will reintroduce them in a couple of weeks.

Embrace, the damaged tissue will heal nicely on its own.Tissue damage with my females does happen occasionally and the wounds heal nicely. In a perfect world you would like no damage to occur but it does happen. This is an extreme case.I was right on top of them to prevent further damage. If in 2 weeks it happens again I will not use this male or wait a year and see if he mellows.
