Ok so one of my co workers found out I have reptiles and he has a leopard gecko, apparently from what he said the gecko has eye caps and during shedding it messed up the gecko's eye's now it's eyes are completely shut, so its blind and he cant get the gecko to eat anything. So he is giving it to me to see what I can do to help it. He has tried to put the food up the its lips and the gecko refuses to take the food. Unfortunately there are no vet's that know anything about reptiles anywhere near my area so I am hoping that someone on here can help me save this little guy. any advice guys?

The gecko may have more problems than just its eyes and may possibly have an infection which is making it feel not so good and with no appetite. You can try bathing the eyes with warm water to see if the shed will come off (if it's not already off). You can also put some drops of water on the gecko's nose so it can lick them off because at the very least it needs to be hydrated. There is a recipe here somewhere for a "puree" food substitute that you can feed your gecko if it's not eating.

Where in NY are you? I know there are people to ask about vets in NYC, Long Island, Adirondack area and Rochester area.

There's always a possibility that a vet could clean out the eyes and prescribe antibiotics if the bad shed was recent. In that case, I'd really encourage you to track down any vet in the area that agrees to treat exotics and see if you can prevent him from being blind for the rest of his life.

As for feeding, there is a slurry recipe and instructions here for helping sick geckos eat.

If the gecko has an eye infection going though, just feeding him by hand isn't going to cure it. That's why I still encourage seeking a vet if possible.

I just answered to someone who had a similar problem. Here is a possible solution. If you can get the eyes open flush them with a 100% saline/water solution then put a drop of Zoomed's Turtle Eye drops. Dont let the name mislead you, it can be used on all Reptiles. The saline and eye drops should COMPLETELY flush out its eyes. :) If that doesnt work then the gecko needs some medical attention. FORCE FEED it. I know its hard but if its not eating, you have to feed it. kill a meal worm and force it in its mouth. There might also be some liquid formulas for them too :) Hope this helps man!
