D: My lovely littel Spit Fire(his name says it all!) decided he wanted to play hide and go seek with me and needles to say he's winning! Hes very smart! If you have leos who know how to open there cage doors then you know what im talking about! Spit knew how to push open his door(and if it didnt push he'd DIG till it moved slightly and wiggles out) He was a pet store gecko who i took in as a rescue. they wanted to kill him because of his terrible adittude AND ofcourse his escaping abliltiesD: The first time I found him easily this time its been 2 days! We've torn 2 rooms of the house apparent already looking. He is a fat gecko(mine are all very fat^^; spoiled little boogers) so I know he can last for a good 2 weeks easy but still the sooner the better! We did find old poop(probably 2 days) but no gecko. does any have ANY ideas? right now were leaving mealworms down and trying to figure out what room hes in. we just worry coz he has a TERRIBLE additude when it comes to handling and dogs(which we have 5 chihuahuas who love geckos! wouldnt harm them) and would rather find him before the dogs did coz we know he'll gladly bite them.

We've checked under the fridge, stove, beds, and the bathroom and my own bedroom(where the cage is) but as of yet just to poop. HELP!D:

Minnow trap designs scattered along walls and in dark spots.

And secure the cage, if an animal proves an ability to actively escape whatever you're trying to keep it in, you have a responsibility to fix that situation. It is not the animal's fault for exploring and getting lost, it's the owner's fault for not making sure it was secure.

Try every weird, obscure place you know. And did you say he poops in your bedroom? Well, maybe if you keep an extra special eye on that room you'll catch him in the act and be able to get him. Best of luck, I really hope you find him!

Check under and in the back of your fridge. I've had luck there. When you move the fridge listen for any movement. Best of luck

Starting searching at night. grab like a flash light and you should easily spot him. Geckos do know when night is upon them so your best bet is to search when they come out, being that they are nocturnal creatures. Finding him will be hard but he will survive non the less. I've had a gecko lost for 2 months one time and when found she was fat, like living like a queen. Do keep a look out at night though. Dark warm places. Also make it cold in your house and make only one spot or room hot and then check it after it starts to get real cool. They have a knack for sensing hot areas.

We are looking at night but last time he got out(yeah i kowD: terrble of me to let it happen again) we found him walking around during the day, he crawled right into my hands and went back into his cage....hes only about 4 months(7inchs) but i know theres lots of bugs for him to eat in my room. A cricket or raochs always seems to slip away(well crickets mostly only had one roach get away...that was later smashed=-=) Our house is normally cold at night we living in northern MN and all but my room stays a constant 80 from the heaters being on. Thanks tho! It gave me a peice of mind knowing he can last more then 2 weeks:D so far no signs on the traps we set:/ dang booger

DDD: its now been 2 weeks im beginging to give up hope! the fridge(underneith) has never been so clean! closets, rooms, everything. We've turned this house upside down and now a sign of him! We left flour down around the edges of the house(real fun explaining that to everyone) and not even a mouse went threw it. left hides, nothing.food dish- all were still in the dish in the A.M. there is no way he got under the house or in the walls. D: An more ideas? I did manage to find a loose roach in all this....

Do you guys have space heaters? When I was in school one of my roommates once lost one of her baby leos and found her under a space heater. It was a really tight space, one we didn't even think of looking under right away. You have to remember, even if he's full grown he can fit under some ridiculously tight areas.

I never lost one of mine to the point where it took more than a few hours to find them. So I'm really not sure how baiting would work. Bring in your friends to help you look, they will have "fresh eyes" and might be able to see things you haven't.

Also, if you have cats.......... cats will eat practically anything & everything. :/

Good luck and hope you find him! My heart goes out to you.

my advice is DO NOT PANIC! i lost 2 of my leos just before christmas and wanted them back desperatly and i panicked loads and eventually gave up checking everywhere because i didnt think i wouldd find them alive! but i left the hides down and heaters and i did get both back curled up together alive in the hide!
now you may have noticed i missed out 1 crucial factor in this story, the time they were missing. mine went missing for 12 weeks!! yes 12!! and they both came back a healthy weight still even though i hadnt left out (because mealies have a habit of escaping and crickets for obvious reasons lol).
all you need to do is persevere and wait. check the hides twice a week or so and they will return! leopard geckos are build and designed to live in areas where food and water become scarce constantly and this is why hey store fat in their tails! but for escapee geckos sake lets just say their tail is basically a suitcase full of food haha!
and in reply to a to the comment above...i have 2 dogs and a cat and niether of my geckos were harmed :)
dont lose hope and i hope this helps and encourages you! feel free to message me at anytime and i will get back to you asap :)

Here's another feel-better story: I lost a juvenile coleonyx (banded gecko) last fall in my house. This guy was only 2-3 inches long. I found it again 3-4 months later, a bit thin but doing well on escaped crickets and mealworms.

*deep breathe* thanks them stories do help. We dont have cats in the house, our cat died a few years back after being with us for 18 years(he was a adult when whe got him) so no cats and out dogs(chihuahuas) love the geckos and if anything would show us where they were(they like to like tails...dont ask lol) but thanks. Spit did have a nice weight on him before and hand and know he's got some amazing hunting skills so he's definatly eating the extra bugs...I just worry, ya know? a 7 inch gecko against a big ol' house. I'll try to relax some^^;

No, we dont have space heaters and we are checking the oddest places even in blackets hopefully the little demon turns up!! thanks all ill keep you posted if he turns up.

My one leo spot escaped during cage cleaning twice first time he was in my closet he climbed up my prom dress and was found nestled in one of the cups lol. The second time he escaped he climber my entertainment stand but was ont he backside of it so he could catch the warmth from the TV ;) theres some odd places for you to check. stay calm and dont give up hope. poop is a good sign too lol

ahh good good :) ! another good idea is to keep doors closed as much as possible because that way at least if hes in you room (or wherever you keep him) you know that theres a better chance he still in there rather than moving out! mine stayed in my room both times they escaped.
on weekends or whenever i was working late i stayed up online (with the volume off) as late as i could, which was usually about 4am, and try to be as quie as possible because you might hear noises in your room like scratching etc or like me you may see the little runaway run down the skirting boards and under your bed lol! but you have to be quiet or they run fast lol!

I do stay up quite late(most nights 4-5am) because i have problems sleeping. I do thatXD sit and just listen, hoping he'll mess up and let out a noise but as of yet none. The other day i was in the kitchen sitting in the dark just listening^^; my mom came in....needless to say that wasnt fun explaining i was just listening for Spit. We've put up boards(slick ones) to prevent him from getting out of wherever he is but allows the dogs to move around. flour is spread out infront of all them so we can see if he tried to get out. Still nothing. I must say he is a smart gecko where ever he is. I checked inside my box spring too and nothing. Thanks to this my room is now nice and gecko proofed. if any get out there stuck right around the big ol' cage. I attached a pic to show ya all what he excaped out of =w= i dont like rack systems so we made this=-= apparently my dislike for rack systems may be my down fall with these little demon geckosXDD

But thank you all its super re assuring he'll be fine when i find him:D Im sure he's gonna turn up just randomly one day 20xs the normal size of a gecko lol well thats what we joke about anyways. a 20lb 9 foot gecko, hehe
