New Crested

I got a Crested Gecko today!! He's a nice big boy, not a baby, probably still a bit of growing left to do, but he is sooo nice! I never knew a gecko/lizard could just chill and be comfortable and not try and run or be all crazy!

I'll be taking pics in a day or so, he seems to love his new tanks, it's really tall so plenty of room to climb, got lots of hiding plants and vines and such to climb on! But I will be buying more stuff as time goes on! I'm keeping it moist, and not hot.

An important advice the experts can offer?
I've heard a few different things to feed, such as, baby food, soft fruits, and some crickets and mealies, what is the best?

Sorry, too long and can't edit now, but we do not have any of the Crested Gecko Diet in town, (fairbanks, alaska) So I have ordered some online.

Would that be one of the best things to feed?

I don't know anything about Crested Geckos, but I'll help you bump your thread up and hope someone who does can answer. Try googling care sheets or something, or searching the forums. :)

I have searched the forums, and researched online, but of course, there is always going to be a lot of controversy, some say just fruit baby food is okay, while others say it is never okay. I'm not sure when the CGD will be here, as it takes things a little while to get up to Alaska, but hopefully in a few days.

Yeah, I hear you. It's hard to find good information and then knowing what to believe and what is just fluff. I hope the food gets here soon, too!! *crosses fingers*

I personally don't think baby food is a good choice because it isn't a staple diet. For example if you only fed it baby food and insects the crested gecko would become malnourished. Thanx ,justin

Can they have a little bit of baby food, like as in, desert like licking some off my finger?

I'm new to these geckos too, but most of the articles I've read say to use the Crested Gecko Diet. I've also read an article by one breeder that said he mixes baby food in with the CGD.

HEY My hometown too! Anywho, i use CGD and crickets, they seem to really like both. But yes, a little bit of baby food is ok but it shouldnt be your main food item for them. They can eat it and they do like it but it contains a lot of sugar which isnt healthy for them.

Gotcha thanks, I'm hoping, hoping that the food will arrive soon, but with Alaska, you never know, I'm gonna give him a bit of time to get used to his new surroundings, (though I was bad and held him for a second before I put him into his new tank when I got him...)and then maybe try to give him a few crickets, how would I go about doing this, I hand feed my salamander, for my leo I take everything out of his tank and throw about 10 crickets in there and wait until he eats his fill which he is doing quite quickly, buy I'm not sure how to do it with the crestie...Just throw them in there, or put him in a different like, tub to eat??

I mix my CGD with organic baby food. It doesn't contain added sugar. My 3 younger ones will eat CGD by itself ( mixed with water) but my smeagol is a picky boy!!!

Yes, I just looked at the kind my mom got and it is also organic, with no added sugar. Now, baby food actually tasted pretty good, but do you think that CGD stuff doesn't taste good?

Just throw the crickets in there, he will find them. They seem to like to hunt them too.

Mixing baby food with cgd is fine also I'm not sure if this is true but mixing baby chicken baby food with a fruit baby food and adding vitimin and mineral supplement is fine.
