Sunday I just got my first crested gecko. this is my second reptile, my first was an anole that was given to me but had internal parasites and died shortly after receiving him. so since i spent all the money for the supplies I got a pet a little more sociable. the guy at the pet store told me that the 10 gallon tank i have would be fine her. its a 12x10x20 long tank but i would like to get something taller. he also told me that it would regrow its tail which i later found out isn't true haha. but he was thinking of geckos in general so im not too worried.
in the tank i have eco earth substrate, 2 live succulents (not cacti) and a live bonsai ficus tree along with a fake viney plant and a stick. the pet store was out of crested gecko chow so the guy gave me a little bit of the stores supply but i mixed it wrong and it was way too soupy. so i ordered some repashy gecko diet online and for the few days i have to wait for delivery im feeding her banana baby food. its high end stuff with no added sugar and its just until i get the gecko food. i mist a few times a day and have a little shallow dish for water and food. today she ate while chillin on my hand which was pretty cool.
i just want to make sure im doing everything right because i would hate to have an ill gecko because i did something wrong.
next paycheck i think i will get a tall terrarium

ur gona want more cover for her to hide in. about 50 percent of your tank should be plants for cover since they like to hide a lot. it will become a game in the mornign or nite. i wake up or get hoem and i play lets find joker and he is always some were new its funny. spent 5 mins looking for him before and he was hangign upside down on teh top of the tank. cresties r interesting little geckos.

Neither one of those would probably be good because they seem to be full screen cages. Cresties need a moderately high level of humidity, and those tanks will let it dry out pretty fast. You might consider checking out the Zoomed, or Exo Terra line of tanks, they're tall, have front opening doors and usually you can buy them with a bunch of accessories. They can be a bit pricey though.

If you're in a pinch, you can house one in a ten gallon aquarium turned on its side. Although this is not ideal and it would be better to get a larger tank as soon as you can.

i seen a few youtube videos of crested geckos in this terrarium and 20" seems good. i just bought it from pet solutions on amazon.com. after shipping it was $47, not bad. go to ******** and you'll prolly pay $99.99.
so when it arrives and i get setup i'll let ya know what i think, hopefully my crestie doesn't mind being in the 10 gal for a week or so.

It should be fine in the ten gallon for that little bit of time, I kept mine in a normal 10 gal for a month or so and he's perfectly fine. It's just that you wouldn't want to keep them in a situation like that for super long. I'm sure your crestie will love the new tank!

http://www.pangeareptile.com/store/reptile-cages.html great site and the full cage set up is a great price for all the things that coem with it. this is were i got all my stuff from and i got the free gecko with it and it is a awsome geckos i couldnt not hope for a better crestie then i got. give them a look or not up to u.

dang it! lol
same thing i just bought half an hour ago but with free shipping, oh well it was only an extra $8. and you can buy a geckos love right? i mean look at geicko lol

also one other question. when the crestie sleeps, do its eyes tuck in a little bit? i notice during the day she sits in one spot in the leaves and her eyes are smaller and don't stick out as much. at night they are a little bigger and seem to stick out more as she moves around.

Yeah, I got really scared the first time I saw it, but he always pulls his eyes in really flat when he sleeps. During the night when they're awake however they are usually kinda bulgy looking.

yea think thats a common thing. joker just seems to pass out were ever he is at the moment the sun kinda starts pocking out

haha yea mine does that too, she is in the same spot as she was this morning. if i move anything she'll look around a bit then pass out again

i never hear mine and she is at the foot of my bed. when i get the new cage im going to move her to a less "high traffic spot". i know she moves because i will see her in one spot for a while, come back 15 mins later and she is in a new spot haha. there was one cricket from last night that fell into the tank and its gone now so she must of nabed it during the night. :main_laugh:
i loved crested geckos now, i never realized how coll they were till i got one

we just put a wood stove in my house and it keeps the house 70-75 degrees all winter. if it ever does drop lower its no less then 65 and i have a 40W night time "moon-Glo" bulb.

Just a tip - get off the baby food right away. Don't even use it. If you're feeding this even just "until the repashy gets there," chances are your gecko is going to get hooked on it (even with less sugar), and have trouble adjusting to the CGD.

A few more plants or vines in the tank would be a wise choice, but you're off to a good start. Also consider adding a hiding place. A favorite of all 5 of my cresties are the Magnaturals hides that stick to the side of the terrarium (here). It's where they go when they go to sleep, functioning as bedrooms sorta, I guess haha.
