I just switched over from carpet to tile. At the hardware store i was able to get enough tile for a 29 gal tank for only about $8 and my gecko loves it, she comes out more often to lay on it. The tile is super easy to clean too just take out the one your gecko pooped on a wash it :main_thumbsup:
I don't think it makes a difference just make sure that they have some traction so the gecko can walk on them i got 2 different kinds some 2" generic tiles and some bigger slate tiles my gecko seams to really like the slate tiles
can you use a heat pad if you have tiles? I think i might go with tiles when my gecko is a baby if you can do that, should the tiles be a little rough? I have a 20 gallon tank.
I get floor tiles from HOme Depot. Just avoid the really shiny totally smooth ones. I also buy really cheap bathroom tiles (those 4.25"x4.25" tiles that go on bathroom walls, about 16 cents each) and put them where the geckos go to the bathroom. THen I just take them out, brush off the poo and put them back. It makes cleaning really easy.
did you place any sand underneath the tile to help retain heat? Is it even necissary? I'm going to be doing tile and I think I kind of have to (I have one of those older herp tanks that has a hole at the bottom of it and the plug would make the tile uneven) If i do lay a thin layer of sand under it and in between the cracks to fill in would this be an issue? I saw this on someone's page and I thought it was a good idea but I'm not sure if anyone has any experience?
