New gecko, and heating question please..

Hey, I bought a gecko a few week ago, and it refused to eat for me, and did not poop.
I have returned the gecko and bought a new one, that eats, poops, and drinks fine.
IT regurged today, but it's only on his second day, so like many other people who's geckos regurged in the first week, I'm putting this down to stress.
He is however fine in all the other aspects of health.

I am having trouble getting my UTH and stat to get the correct temps. I have a digital thermo and its reading 93 but last night I got it set to a max of 90..
So I have put a lamp in with the guy for tonight instead, and I'm hoping to change over to a lamp from tomorrow, but I have some questions:

Should I turn the lamp on early and turn it off about 10pm when I go to bed?
will a 40W or 60W lamp be best?
Should it be red?

Thank you..

do you plan on using both the undertank heater and the lamp?? Sorry if it is a stupid question but I am a lil confused!! I'd say if your temps are in the low 90's that you probably do not need any more heat!! If you were going with just a lamp im not sure if it alone will provide enough heat!! So if you could clear this up I can probably give you a better answer!!

ALso to add to my reply, I personaly use a 60watt (I think) red bulb for heat along with an uth....this is only because the uth only gets my tank into the low eighty's. If you do need the lamp, it would not be a problem to leave it on at all times, only if it is red, or you may turn it off at night to simulate a natural slight drop in temp.

Well my thurmostat which is quite good, is playing up, so I was going to just use a lamp instead of a heat-mat and stat. However I read on the thurmostat box that its made to be used with habistat heat-mats.. And the one thats on it now is not habistat, so I have connected a habistat heat-mat to the thurmostat and maybe now i'll get the temps between 88-90, or 86-90 ...

I would stay with the under the tank heat mat

Leos do well with belly heat rather than heat from above because they are nocturnal and not sun basking lizards

The only spot in the tank that needs to 88-90 degrees is on the floor right over the uth
The air temperature of the tank should be cooler than that or you will over heat your Leo

Good Luck with him

Sandy

PS-regurgitating is not normal unless they eat too many insects too fast

Hey! I finally got the thurmostat correct, with a habistat heat-mat.

It's set between 87.9F - 89.9F

:D

hes pooped again today, "his second time in 3 days" and he ate the little pinkie mouse :D
hopefully now his temps are correct and he's settling in more, he won't regurg.

How many meals will a pinkie last him?
Should he still be offered crickets a day after eating a pinkie mouse?

I'm glad to read that you got the temps set

I am not trying to be a pain in the butt-but why on earth are you feeding this Leo pinky's?

There is quite the variety of insects to choose from to feed your Leo and they are Insectivores

Also-is this an adult that you are feeding pinky's too?

I mean no disrespect but with it just regurgitating a meal yesterday- a large meal such as pinky does not sound like a good idea to me

Was it a pinky that it regurged yesterday?

just my .-02

I heard that pinkys are not good for them due to the skeleton.* I also heard or read that pinkys are okay if they are only a day old to an adult Leo.* However, I have no intent to feed my Leo a pinky just because I couldn't do that.* Crickets & meal worms is the best I can handle.* I guess this is why I need small reptiles :) :)

I am a new Gecko owner too. It took me a little while to figure out the heating in the tank too. I guess us new Gecko owners will learn together. I bought my Tremper Gecko last Saturday. I've had her now for 1 week. So far so good.
