Got this liddle crestie a couple weeks ago. Everyone told me he shouldn't be in the 15 gallon vivarium since he's so small. So I put him in a 5 gal with a hide, a stick and paper-towel substrate. Now he's not eating. He was eating when he was in the big tank (yet he would only eat while I was holding him...well, I did notice 'dents' in the food in his dish)

Well I'm afraid that moving him to the little tank has stressed him or something. Also I can't keep it as humid since it has several ventilation slots in the top.

I spent a long time yesterday making the special homemade CGD with mangoes, banana, unsweetened applesauce, yogurt, chicken baby food, etc...smelled so good I would even eat it...I also stirred in some Vitamin powder. (lol I actually tasted it before I put the chicken and vitamin powd in hehe...I think I'm gonna make myself a shake with the same ingredients LOL)

He will NOT eat crickets. He did eat about 3 crickets, about two weeks ago or longer. I don't see that he has eaten any since then.

The only way he will eat is if I smear it on his face and he has to lick it off. BUT now he's getting wise to my scheme and sees what I'm about to do, gets aall squirmy and jerks his head away when he sees the food coming. Sometimes he wipes the food off with his foot now...

Am I going to have to go back to baby food?! That's what he was fed in the pet store... :main_thumbsdown: I really don't think I want him back on baby food...

Also should I put him back in his 15 gallon viv? I think he was happier in there...

We don't feed crickets or baby food to any of our baby Cresteds. They all get Crested Gecko Diet. Their tiny bowls go in their critter keepers full and they still look full when I replace them with fresh CGD. It's very hard to tell if they're eating at that age. You can really only tell by the fact that they are growing. I don't get any of ours in the habit of being hand fed and we've never had a baby starve to death. LOL Ask any breeder and they'll tell you, it never looks like babies are eating but they are!

WELL SAID.

Also watch for stool. That is another obvious sign. Baby food isnt the best for CG's so I would just leave em with the CGD in the smaller enclosure. As long as it is findable and the cresty is hungry it will probably eat it. As mentioned it is very hard to notice less food considering babies dont eat much. IMO CGD is the best food for babies. Me personally I like to maximize growth potential by feeding crickets 1-2 times a week (supplemented with calcium one of those 2 feedings). I feel crickets tend to "fatten up" geckos alittle.
