Well today i found a hachling crawling around in the incubator that struck me as odd. She has no deformities or anything but she has unusuall coloration and pattern for what her parents are. On a side note I am 100% sure that the below geckos are indeed her parents as i keep all of mine separate. Is this coloration normal for her lineage? If not what would she be considered thanks

Heres the hatchling

Here are some possibilities:

--if she's a little early, she may not have her yellow coloring yet

--her darker coloring is more of a brown than a black, suggesting she will hypo out like her dad

--she has an aberrent pattern (not really a jungle because her tail is banded) which does sometimes crop up in banded geckos' offspring

--her coloring does make her look as if she's Mack snow. Or it could just be slightly premature coloring like I mentioned above. What do you know about her parents? I have a female gecko that looks just about exactly like your male except I happen to know she is a Mack snow because I produced her last year.

Aliza

well i know that her mom is almost 100% normal, wild caught great-grandparents or so i was told but the dad im not too sure. Do you think its possible a hypo like him could have some mack snow or jungle in him?

As I said, you'd never know that my female is a Mack snow. The only way to know if the male is a snow is to ask the breeder. If you got him from a pet store, I doubt he's a snow. If this is the only baby he fathers who ever looks like this, and he fathers, say, more than 10, I would also doubt he's a snow. As far as the jungle/stripe goes, I have a male banded albino who has produced some jungle/striped babies when paired with a stripe and with his superhypo daughter, but never with any other gecko, so I would guess he has some genetic stripe potential in him,.

Allright well since this hatchling is the males first i guess i would have to wait until more eggs that came frm him hatch. So including the clutchmate to this girl that would mean 3 more hatchlings on the way from him that can help us answer this question. And yes he did come from a petstore but not a chain a local store that has quite the selection of reptiles, so ya never know.

Could both parents be het for the same albino strain? The baby is an odd color I know for an albino but idk otherwise I am just guessing and throwing some things out there to think about otherwise I would say snow but still I'm not sure just guessing. I would def listen to Aliza tho she is perty smart :p Very likey it is slightly premee and is actually not snow so guess time will tell. Keep us updated :)

Well today about a couple of hours ago her clutchmate hatched. So would that nullify the first hatchling as being a premie since they both hatched around the same period? Any way here are some pics of the clutchmate, no aberrent pattern but same coloration.

They sure look like snows to me. I guess either parent could possibly be snow. If you get a charcoal colored baby, then both of them are snows and you've got a super snow.

Allright then, cant wait to see how they change. :)

I checked their eyes just a little while ago and both had charcoal blacked out eyes. So i guess one of the parents has a little snow in em.

I have 2 more eggs incubating from this couple so it shuld be interesting to see how they hatch out.

O and I have a question about the hatchlings themselves. Rougly when will these guys shed?

And if you would take an educated guess which one do you think has a snow gene?

Just for the record, they're either snow or not. THe way it works, they can't have "a little snow". Most gecko hatchlings shed in 2-3 days, some possibly as late as 5 days. They both look similar in coloring, so I'd guess if there's snow going on , it's either both or neither. Snows in general have dark colored eyes. In super snows and in snows with an eclipse trait the eyes stay totally black, but in most snow babies, the eyes will differentiate so you can see the pupil as they get bigger.
