New Hatchling

Hey, I just bought a hatchling. This is my first leopard gecko but not my first reptile pet. He (I've been told it's most likely a he) is 6 days old, the breeder told me he has already eaten a cricket, shed and pooped. So I'm guessing that's great. He is very friendly, a little skittish but doesn't mind being held.
I know I shouldn't handle him yet but I had to put him in his tank.
I plan on feeding him mealies, what's my best bet to feeding them to him? A dish? Tried to feed him today but he was just afraid of the worm.
Any help would be awesome, along with any other tips.

Cheers

Congratulations on your first leo! I offer mealworms to my hatchlings in a dish. Also, it is normal for your gecko to refuse food until he is comfortable in his new home.

Also, my tank came with an exo terra food dish but it's horrible, the mealies escape so I now need to try to find 5 mealies in his tank and get them out.
What is a good dish to use? Is there anything from around the house I can use?

I just use a saucer plate or butter container lids...I only put enough mealies in that they will eat in 5 or so minutes to ensure none get away. ;)

Also I was watching him this afternoon and when he was walking it was very slow.
Is this normal? I'm just worried there isn't enough heat. I have an uth and a heat lamp. (the red bulb doesn't bother them during night right?)

Leos don't always run when getting around their enclosure. Do you have a way of measuring the temperature inside of the enclosure? I keep the warm side of my hatchling enclosures at about 90 degrees F. Also, I believe that they can see the red light, but that most leos are not bothered by it. I have temporarily used red bulbs when my under tank heaters stop working and have noticed no change in my leos' night time behavior when I do.

I got it from a guy on kijiji (a new and sell kinda thing in my province), and he has two hatch.
What are your tips? I handled him for a bit but I stopped because he was so small.
