Hello all
I am Frank, I live in the UK and I have just joined. Last week we gave our son a leopard gecko for his 8th birthday. He had been begging us for one for years. We did plenty of research beforehand but we are new to reptile keeping so I figured I would join this forum in case we have any questions. The gecko in question is called Graeme and is a baby (8 weeks according to the shop). He is currently living in a plastic tub inside the 2ft vivarium that he'll move into when he is bigger. So far all seems to be well but I have a question about how much to feed him. We started out with 4 or 5 small-medium crickets every evening and gradually increased this. He is now getting 8 or 9 (depending on how big they are) and he is eating them all. Is this about right? Should we increase until he leaves some and the adjust accordingly?
Cheers
Frank

Welcome

Howdy & Welcome from across the pond.

Crickets are best (Gotta Gut Load and Dust them first).

Mealies are second best and you can leave them in a dish with calcium powder (Gotta Gut Load them first. You may want to Dust them too).

Giant Mealies are good when the Leos are older.(Gotta Gut Load them first. You may want to Dust them too).

Super Mealies are also good, when the Leos are older, but scary.(Gotta Gut Load them first. You may want to Dust them too).

Roaches are almost as good as Crickets.(Gotta Gut Load and Dust them first).

Phoneix Worms are also good if you can get a Leo to eat them.

Horned Worms and Silk Worms are good too. Butter Worms may also be good if you can find them. (Gotta Dust them first. They come with their own food.).

Waxies a couple of times a month (or once a week) are fine but, fatty.

After about 12 Months you can start to feed every other day.
