Hey all,

My name is David. I am located in central Indiana. I love the reptile hobby. However until recently I have pretty much been excursively into Ball Pythons. You can find me on a few other forums out there. I am looking to learn as much as I can about Geckos and that's why I am here.

I'm at an unfortunate time in my life where I have to down size my BP collection to only keep 4 of them. I will have the ability to grow my collection again in a year or two.
I have had my eye on Geckos for awhile. This unfortunate circumstance has given me the opportunity to get into Geckos. I will be taking some of the money from my snakes that I sell and investing them into Geckos as soon as I figure out what direction I want to go. The advice that I am looking for is direction on which one might be the right fit for me.

I have been going between Crested Geckos, Leopard Geckos, and recently Cave Geckos.

Here are some questions I have about each.
From my understanding there really isn't morphs for Crested Geckos. So how stable is the Crested market with that being said. I have found myself really drawn to the dark colors with pinstripe and lateral stripping.
How likely are the offspring of to turn out similar to their parents?

I really love the Cave Geckos and from what I have been looking into I understand that they are very new to the reptile industry. I know that there are various species of Cave Geckos as well. Are their any morphs to these or because they are so new we don't have any yet? Also can you breed the various species of Cave Geckos?

Leopard Geckos i seem to be the most drawn to because the seem the most established, and they actually have morphs. But I don't know what is a good investment morph to get into. I have seen the same morph go from 50 to a few hundred. I understand a line breed morph will fetch more money depending on the line. I have found my self drawn to the Halloween Mask morphs alot.

Thanks,
David

I have a crested gecko, breed leopard geckos and don't know anything about cave geckos. Here is my opinion:
--many people will tell you that you will very likely not make money breeding geckos. I only mention this because you talk about "investment morphs". I recommend that you get something you like and breed the healthiest geckos you can while providing the best customer service you can. That will establish you with a good reputation and you can evolve from there

--there seems to be a whole lot of crested geckos on the market right now. My impression is that really nice looking crested geckos produce a bunch of other real nice looking crested geckos but it may not be as predictable as with other species. I do find that a lot of the crested geckos with interesting color names just strike me as "brown"

--because cave geckos are realitively new to the market and require more careful maintenance than the others, you may be able to sell them for more. On the other hand, there is a much smaller pool of people who are in a position to care for them which means fewer people who will buy them.

Bottom line, get something that you like, have fun with it and enjoy the breeding.
