Just starting out my own meal worm farm. I have a few beetles that just hatched. Do I need to separate them from the pupa or can they stay in the same area?

I have a 3 drawer set up. Drawer 1 with meal worms to feed and form pupa. Drawer 2 where I transfer pupa to, to form beetles. And then drawer 3 which is empty now...

Should I put my beetles in drawer 3 to breed and lay eggs? Or leave that for baby mealies?

You probably don't have to remove the beetles from the pupa. Once they change, it takes them a while before they start eating much anyway. Though, if you only have a few pupa, you might want to separate them just to make sure you get every beetle you can.

I used this set up for my mealworm farm and it's been super awesome. Basically, you cut out the majority of bottom of the top drawer and replace it with screen. Use oatmeal for the beetles to nest in and bowls to feed them fresh veggies. Then the eggs or tiny larva just fall into the second drawer where you have a mealworm medium. As they get large, you can sort them out and put the large ones into a third drawer and that's where you feed out of.

I've had mine running for a while and they're finally getting big enough to feed from. And there is a TON.
