New incubation questions?

I would like to know everyone's opinion on the following idea for incubation:

Can I put my eggs in a sealed (with an air hole or two) deli type container for heating can I hang a heating lamp above it? rather than having an under-egg heater?

I know that with this, I can't use a thermostat. I was wondering though, is it 100% necessary that the temperature always stay the exact same degree? Like in one day can it be 83F for most of the day, but then change to 86? Will this deform the babies? And if it is safe, how much can the temperature change be? Is five degrees the maximum?

How does this set up sound? (it's pretty much completely different than the above idea)

Large styrofoam box, with air holes and lid
Inside styrofoad box there is a heating pad
On top of heating pad is a rubbermaid (or similar) box with an inch of sand
Inside the box of sand there are small (one or two egg-sized) deli type cups that have vermiculite or perilite (or similar) with the correct amount of water, and the egg
these small egg-containing boxes would have a sealed lid and perhaps a small air hole.

Thanks for helpful answers.

This is what you have to accomplish: you need a place for the egg where it can be in a humid environment, where the temperatures are somewhere between 80-88 F and don't vary more than about 2 degrees. I don't know if your setup will meet those requirements or not. I think the only way to find out is to set it up with a digital thermometer with probe and take some data.

Good luck
