new lepard gecko

Hiya I'm new to the forum I. Got my self a gecko yestoday and I love him.

Having a little trouble keeping him walm tho. I have a heat mat and a 25w red light. When I have them both on its fine but when I turn the light of at night the temp drops to about 69f. What shall I do please help

Are you measuring the temperature on the floor of the tank or in the air? If it's getting down that low on the floor (you have to put the thermometer, or better yet, the probe on the floor) then your heat mat must be defective. If you're measuring it in the air (as I suspect you are), measure it on the floor are report back.

Hi thanks for the reply. Yes I'm measuring about 4inchs above the heatmat and at the side of the red light. So I'm assuming at night its only really the heat mat that has to be on, its defintley working.

Iin terms of food can I feed him mealworms instead of crickets? As I'm having trouble getting the crickts out of the tub and not puting to many in by mistake? Also don't want them niping at my lizard.

Mealworms are a great feeder. Coat them in Calcium about 2 times per week and feed them to your gecko.
You can also feed:
Dubia Roached
Wax Worms-lay off here, they are addictive and fattening
Super Worms
