Hello, my name is Sonya. I had just found a newly hatched gecko wandering across my kitchen floor. He/She had this coloring when I found it

and was so small I am lucky I pay attention to where I step.

Well within about 30 to 45 min he/she has changed to full color. Tan with brown stripes. Now it looks like this View attachment 42942 .

I have never dealt with these little guys before. And my little girls took such a liking to it. I am wondering what exactly do I need to get him set up right now? And would it be a good idea since he is still a newly hatched little guy? Compared to a wild older one?

I have someone willing to give me a small aquarium with a hot rock ( I know those usually are for snakes) and a hallow wood piece to go in it. I am reading up as much as I can on them and found this forum and thought what better place to start than here. From people with experience.

Thank you for reading my ramblings.

Welcome to GF. This looks like a Coleonyx gecko, aka SW banded gecko, not native to Alabama as far as I know. It's care is just like leopard geckos except that they are much smaller. My coleonyx eat small (1/8" to 1/4") crickets and mealworms. Go to the top of the page here, click on "articles caresheets" and read several leopard gecko caresheets. Don't use the hot rock. By the way, it may not be newborn; they are very small.

Really? They are not native to here? WOW how neat. I hope I can keep him going. Yeah he is really small. I got him a simple aquarium for now till I can get him his humidifier from the pet store and his tiny crickets to eat. I have a shallow dish of water in his area till I can get all that I need tomorrow.
Thank you for such great welcomes. We have always had them galore around here. Not sure if its this particular type of gecko but at some point we have about 10 or more of them sitting on our window because our light in the kitchen attracts all the bugs to the window.

Ok after further investigation he is a "House Gecko" Native to southern areas such as Texas and Alabama. So now to look into how to take care of him.
