I am adopting my first leopard gecko in a few days. I have done a lot of researching and have bought everything that I need for the tank. I still have a few questions:

What do you recommend putting in the humid hide?
Is there a type of moss that is safe?

Also, since I have a 20 gallon tank I was debating if I should get two geckos? I have read that they are solitary creatures, but was wondering if two might be more exciting/interesting?

Thanks! I'm sure I'll have more questions later.

Welcome to GF. In answer to your questions:
--I use paper towel in my humid hide which I mist periodically. For breeding geckos, my humid hide doubles as a lay box and I use eco earth. Sphagnum moss is probably safe but I have heard some cases of it molding so I prefer not to use it in my humid hide

--2 geckos will fit in a 20 gallon but they need to both be female. If you get them from 2 different places, they need to be quarantined from each other for at least a month (that means another enclosure). THere's always a chance that the 2 won't get along and you'll have to separate them (although I do keep my geckos in small groups and have nearly never had problems). They are solitary and in some cases it's been a bit more interesting to have a small group, but there's no guarantee.

Thank You! The place I am adopting has two geckos so if they are already living together I will probably adopt both.

Thanks everyone for letting me know about the hides. If I decide to get 2, I'll definitely get two females!
