New red-eyed tree frog

I'm really sorry to hear that, one of my red eyes died recently too, last summer I got 4 captive bred babies from LLL and like a week ago one just died. I have no idea why, it's odd too because I have one that's like the runt he's the smallest one but it was one of the big ones that passed. Luckily all the others are still doing good. I don't think it was anything you did, everything in your setup looks good, the only thing I could think of is he choked on some of the moss when he was eating. I really don't use moss anymore too high of a chance for the animal to choke on it. My old crested almost died that way. The bed-a-beast should've made the tank humid enough. Just for future reference incase you want to try these guys again. Also I would highly recommend to make sure they are CB, they have short lifespans as it is I think the max is like 5 years, so if he was WC who knows he could've just died of old age.

the guy i emailed said the ones he got from the vendor were doing fine and i think he forwarded my email to the breeder but i haven't gotten any response.
i don't think i'll be trying tree frogs again, not just because of this experience but also due to the fact that they're kinda boring unless you're up late at night to watch them and you can't really handle them at all.
i know the show i bought him at allows WC animals because they had some WC senegal chams among others. i definitely won't be buying any more animals on impulse from now on.

I am so sorry for your loss
The loss of any pet is difficult and you were already giving yourself a hard enough time because it was a spur of the moment purchase

To me-If you buy a reptile-one that you have an idea of it's care and you have the basics to set it up- and then take it home and do the rest of the research-it is 100% better than not even checking to see if it's right

Let's face it-we are all human-and I bet that every single one of us has made an impulse buy-but I think that the important thing is that we make sure that the animal does end up with the necessities for a correct habitat asap if we missed anything before we did the research

I looked longingly at them at Tinley last Oct.

Good point about if it was wc -stress/parasite load etc. could have all come into play and if it was cb-i still maintain that you simply did not have it long enough to cause it's demise

So go easy on yourself

On the other hand-the reasons that you listed for most likely not getting other frog are the ones that I have wanted a tank of them for ages

They are such beautiful creatures that they almost look unreal

Maybe some day I will get around to a nice big Exoterra full of them-lol
just not now-I have too many other animals to care for at the moment

Take Care
Sandy
