New to breeding, need a little help

Ok, So I have 2 Leos. 1 male and 1 female. they are really dark yellow with black spots everywhere. The best identification I have of them is the wild/Normal pattern. They are both ready to breed.

I am also buying a Hypo Tangerine in a couple of days that is ready to breed.

My question is, what can I expect to get if I breed the normal pattern with the tangerine?

Also what are some other good morphs to breed with a hypo tangerine in order to get good results?

Thanks,

-Doug

Normal x Tang:
100% Low grade tangs

Other good morphs to go with tangs would have to be the albino strains. Hybinos and sunglows look good.

Thanks for the information. When you say low grade, what exactly do you mean? is this not desirable? Sorry if I seem dumb i'm just very new to this and trying to learn everything I can about what will produce what. I cannot find any info about this on the net.

Thanks!

Here’s kind of what I mean by low grade:

To me this is a high grade tangerine: http://theurbangecko.com/images/pop_up/leopard/tornados/elektra.jpg

This is medium grade: http://www.geckosetc.com/images/avail/Available Pictures/HTF7_224_600.jpg

This is low grade: http://mysite.verizon.net/elgecko1989/4 Sale/LGTang3A.jpg

This isn’t a rule of how tangs are. This is just how I see them. I would also say when breeding to a normal you’d get more spotting on your tangerines, so they wouldn’t be completely hypo. They would probably look similar to this gecko in pattern. http://media.photobucket.com/image/tang leo/BoricuaShowoff/IMG_0006.jpg?t=1193183980

Of course the quality of offspring you produce depend on the quality of breeders you have. So, the better the tang you’re using the more tang your offspring will have.

ok awesome, thank you so much for the info

I have just one more question. I was reading about breeding hypo tangerines and the results were dependent on whether it was a single or a double factor. what exactly does that mean (single vs double)

thanks again.

was reading this forum, it mentions the term alot in the two pages of replies.
it sounds technical to me, maybe you can make heads or tails of it?

Around.
Are you ready to incubate the eggs and care for the geckos if you don't sell them?

Anyways.. what I think they mean is that a "single factor" is like co-dom. .. Meaning if you have that gene it will be dominant over the other and give a single color.. if you have a homozygous individual you will have double the gene therefor giving the doubleness of that gene? like if it's white.. it'll be white white.. someone please correct me if i'm wrong.

Yeah, I am ready. I have a hova bator incubator kit and 5 empty ten gallon tanks. Bought a bunch of used Under tank heaters at the most recent reptile expo for really cheap too. If I don't sell them I can always just give them away at the expo which is every month, or give them to my local owned pet store (they are always taking in stuff). I'm sure someone will grab them up. My goal is not to make money but to just cover my costs of breeding them.

I'm going to keep researching everything. I want to try and get some really nice looking leos. I know it will take time but I'm patient. And I think I have most everything I need.

Is there anything I'm not thinking of?

thanks.

Yeah, I buy crickets by the 1,000 at an expo so I always have plenty, alot of them are really tiny, which I feed my baby crested gecko right now along with his pre-made food. I made hides myself out of Tupperware and Im going to use paper towels as substrate.

Sounds good to me. I'm sure the single double thing was just talking about line breeding. I didn't actually read the link (haha, so I may not be helping much!) but I'm pretty confident they were referring to the fact that breeding a tangerine to a tangerine would give you even nicer tangerines, but outcrossing to normals would dilute the tangerine. Anywho, good luck!

Cheers,
-Matt

I'd have more than 5 cages if i where breeding 2 females.

If I do end up needing more room I have a 55 gallon long that I can use and some heat lamps. I'm sure I could also make some temporary holding bins from something with some heat tape or something like that. Anyone have any siggestions on making something temporary (around 8 weeks) to hold them untill I can sell or give them away?

thanks
