Hello,

So I've been doing a little reading here and there about these little guys (crested geckos) and I'm still learning so if I've done something wrong let me know. Constructive criticism is welcome.

Anyway I'm a 25 years old and have played around with reptiles for the last couple of years. They have always fascinated me and I've Learned much in the past two years or so. In that time I have had two bearded dragons (I rehomed them when I had to have a major surgery done and would not be able to properly care for them months.) and a few dart frogs. Unfortunately with the dart frogs I had an infestation of centipedes in the viv that ended up killing the frogs. I believe eggs where on some plants I ordered online and added to the viv without sterilizing. A mistake I now regret. I have since completely tore down everything, got rid of all the cork, substrate, and plants I could not sterilize. I was able to keep some plants that I did sterilize along with the terrarium it's self.

As I lost around $1,500 on that project I decided not to do dart frogs again right now. So after recovering from my operation I started looking at possibilities for setting back up the terrarium. I decided on getting a crested gecko after considering several species.

So here she is (I really have no clue on gender at this point).

I have named her Lucy. I got her at pet smart as a 'fancy crested gecko' I think she may be the 'flame' morph. But I'm not sure of that either at this time. She is around 3" in total length.

The enclosure is an exoterra extra large terrarium. (36"T 36"W 18"D)

It has two feeding spots right now although I have two more ordered so that she can find food easily. The enclosure has both artificial and real plants as well as a shallow (I've filled the water container with large and small rocks so that if she gets in it she can get back out easily.). The ground is covered with shag moss to help with humidity. The terrarium had a screen top and two 36" compact flourescent lighting units from exoterra. In one I have four 7" jungle dawn led lights from 'light your reptiles' and I. The other I have two 75Wat equivalent 'daylight' 5000K compact bulbs and one 60Wat equivalent black light compact flourescent and one blue 60Wat equivalent compact flourescent that I use at night for a little added heat and for night viewing. I mist the viv twice a day, once in the morning and once in the evening before I turn out the lights.

So that's a little about me and my new little gecko buddy. Hope you enjoyed this interdiction and again I welcome any comments you may have.

Thank you.

Welcome to GF and congrats on your nice looking gecko. The viv looks great. Keep an eye on her and make sure she's eating. While she will definitely appreciate that viv when she grows up, she may have a bit of trouble finding her food in such a large enclosure. As long as it's going well, no need to worry.

Thanks. I can't really tell if she is eating right now. How much should a crested gecko her size be eating daily?

They usually don't eat a lot, they have really small stomachs. You may not notice a dent in the food but if you see poop, then she is eating. I would pre-mix some food and put it in the fridge(stays good for up to a week) and put a small dab in the cup. If it gets a little dry you can put a drop of water in it to re-hydrate it.
