could y'all tell me what kind of temperament they tend to have? are they nippy? do they like to be held or no? will they run from you? do they look forward to seing you/being with you? i know that all leo's are unique, just like all cats and rabbit are unique, but i'm just trying to get a general idea of their temperament. thanks guys for all the friendly advice!

I think it differs from each gecko to the next.
Depending on how it is, it may warm up to you, or if not run and hide.
Easing your hand in the cage for a few minuets every day at the same time should help it see that your alright, and as i read on another thread they may warm up to you.

We have some that seem to love when it is time for you to get them out and we have some that could really care less. We only have 1 biter. He has only been with us for a few weeks and he wasn't used to being handled before. My BB are a little jumpy but they are getting better. I agree that it just depends on the gecko. Just be patient and most will come around.

This is the Under-the-Tank Heater that I got (only I got the larger one for my larger tank) http://www.reptilesupply.com/product.php?products_id=489

The 10 gallon size will fit on a portion of the 10 gallon tank, so that is the one you would need. The prices on that site are really low compared to pet stores, but the shipping is high. Still, I ordered everything for my tank including the screen top and it was still cheaper than the pet store (and I got some items that my local pet stores don't even sell).

I think a 10 gallon is going to be fine for your leo, just don't get a giant. Also, if you can get a female, it will be slightly smaller than a male when fully grown. Just please don't try to put more than one leo in a 10 gallon.

If you don't want to use paper towels for the substrate, you can use repti-carpet, which is much safer than sand. Also, for a 10 gallon tank, you might want to just hand feed your leo every day instead of leaving a dish in the tank. This would free up some space on the tank floor. But if you do that, please make sure that you spend time every day feeding your little guy. I would use either a shallow dish for water, or a small butter dish lid or something like that. Not only will this provide water, but it will help keep the air in the cage from becoming too dry.

Looks like there is a show in Orlando in May http://www.repticon.com/

lol weeellll petsmart does competitive pricing so If you print that page out and go in and find the exact product they will give it to you for the price on the site....at least the petsmart I work at does, lol. I do it all the time!

I don't think the bites can hurt, my first gecko nipped me when i was feeing him, and it didnt hurt at all.
If it breaks skin, wash it asoon as possible.

It more or less pinches. Our mean little giant decided to bite my husband and not let go and it didn't break skin. Riddik just held on to him for about 5 minutes, LOL. He just wanted to show my husband that he was the boss. As Adam said, if it should break the skin, I would wash it and add antiseptic right away. Most of them bark more then they bite.
