Hello Everyone, my name is Cheryl. I am very new to the world of gecko care I wanted to make sure that I am doing everything correctly. My son (aka I ) has two new little friends. My husband recently found a 40 gal. terrarium at a local garage sale and thought I could use it for my tortoises so he brought it home. Huge Score! However it is much to small for any of my guys so the prospect of a new family member arose. My son has been asking for a reptile of some sort for some time so after some research we decided a Leopard Gecko would be a great new addition. We currently have two new young friends in the same cage and once we can determine the sexes I planned on adding a divider down the middle to separate them if needed. I would like some opinions on our setup.

Its a 40 gal. terrarium. The subtrate is a Sand Mat. IMG_1874.JPG
I have a under tank heat mat. Above the heat mat in the tank I have a humid hide set up with temps holding between 86-90 degrees. The rest of the tank seems to fluctuate around 78-82 degrees, has multiple hides, water, calcium powder, etc. Please take a look and tell me what else I need to do or change.

Once the new "gals" get settled I take a few pictures of them. I didn't want to stress them out any more then necessary. :)

Welcome! Everything sounds good :) I, myself, would add a few more better concealing hides but that's all I can think of.
I'm looking forward to seeing them!

Welcome to the forum! The enclosure looks pretty good! You can never have too many hiding spots for your leopards. It will also help ensure that one isn't bullying the other. Keep us updated on their progress!

Well I haven't updated this in a long time. Both are doing very well and I am 99.999% sure they are male and female. My female is still very unfriendly. I hold her every day for 10 mins or so and yet to this day she hates humans. (Notice how I said "My", they are my sons, but guess who holds them, feeds them and cleans the tank...). The male (and the names change weekly so I've stopped trying to remember them) is awesome! I love him, he is so gentle and easy to handle. Here are some pictures.

So pretty! Looks like they have a bit of carrot tail, too :)

I'm very excited, I woke up this morning to our first eggs! They are stuck to the bottom of the cup she laid them in, so I added the vermiculite and put the cup in a second cup that they cannot get into. Then I placed it back in their enclosure. Should I do anything different? I have an inqubator in hopes my torts would someday lay but have not had to use it yet :( . Should I break it out for these eggs or is that overkill?

If the place where you have them can maintain a steady temp with less than 2 degrees variation between 80-88F and the cup can keep the humidity high you could leave them where they are. Otherwise, you need to use the incubator.

Based on the picture, the one on the left doesn't look so good, but the one on the right does. Incubate them both until each either hatches or collapses.

I just realized my message didn't transmit with the picture. Both eggs looked good until a few days ago when one turned red and splotchy, it's not sift but is deflating. I am still inqubating both but wonder if I should separate them to keep for spreading anything?
