Hi okay so I bought my son an AFT gecko and now I have jumped on the gecko wagon and have two new leopards....I purchased my son's fattail from the pet store(big mistake) and recently purchased two from individuals.
The first is Chance and he's a big healthy boy. The second one we are possibly going to call SunFlower.... She loves to eat. Working on her habitat....thought about introducing them but Chance bit her tail and wouldn't let go! Then he bit me. So they are staying separate till i learn more and whatnot. Did not like Chance biting me. He's fairly mellow once held for a minute or so. She is a spaz I hope she calms some.
Here's some pics.
He's the spotted dude, she's the yellow,
Any ideas on what exactly they are? (color wise or morph etc.)

How old are they? Are you sure they are opposite sexes? If they are both males they are going to fight so i would suggest checking their sex one more time.

If you don't know how; the male has two bumps right where his tail ends, and then a little further from the tail should be a line of dots, those mean they are male. If you don't see those then they are females.

My little brothers gecko is a spaz but hes mellowed down quite a bit the last couple of weeks but all geckos are different they all have different personalities.

Hope this helps!

Well, one is smaller than the other. To my knowledge one is a male and one is a female, but i am new so i'll double check....One has a v shaped line of pores and the other doesn't but does appear to have a much fainter vertical pore up her abdomen some...
Did you look at the pics?
Anyone know what I would call these color/pattern wise?

I have no idea what the substrate is, i asked the guy and he couldn't remember the name. Looks like mulch and very fine mulch or soil. I've been reading paper towels and newspapers are the best.....I honestly don't want to use either, paper towels are actually expensive in my oppinion. and not very "natural" looking, thought about tiles but i can't imagine it. Aren't they really cool? what do you do just spot clean poop? Do geckos like the smooth cool feeling? what do you do place an uth under the tank and it will heat tile sufficently? I know it's bad but right now my heat pads are in the tank because they won't stay stuck to the bottom of the tank and the area where I am putting them hangs off the stand, so it just peels and hangs.... Will work on this . My sons is attached under the tank(a ten gallon) but the guy i bought the gecko from also had his in the tank under the substrate. Is this a major disaster, do we have any ideas how to remedy the uth not sticking when i don't have a proper stand for the tanks to sit on? They both hand over and are only supported in the middle.
Thanks for the replies..,
Are Leopards really that more active than aft's ? I am still force feeding the african, and he is VERY Docile. (which is why i purchased him for my 6 year old, but after seeing my Geckos hunt crickets and explore thier enviorment I am wondering if this guy is sick. He rarly moves even when I peek at him at night)
He is on repti carpet,(another bad choice:p) with a small heating pad on one side and a humidy hide box and a hide on the cool side with water dish in the middle. He has to be force fed too:(

Ceramic tile holds the heat fine and if you get the tiles with slight texture it will be comfortable for them. Go to Home Depot, look in the ducting dept and get the tape that comes in a roll like duct tape but looks like aluminum foil and has a peel-off plastic backing. This is wonderful for holding on the UTH. You can use any tank and either use the little plastic feet that come with the UTH or some dominoes (which I use) under each corner of the tank to raise it up a bit and vent the heat. Get a 4 1/4" smooth tile from the bathroom tile section and when you figure out where you gecko poops, put it there so you can just lift up the tile and clean it off. At the moment I have 12 leopard gecko tanks, all with ceramic tile.

Thanks for the info and reply:) Do you have pics of your tanks with tile in it

Best I can do is my often-posted picture of my tank with the upstairs level (which is made of tile):

Brown paper lawn bags!! Much more natural-looking than paper towel and newspaper, and much more durable. They can even tolerate a little moisture, like if you spill some water or whatever. This makes them cheap because you're not constantly changing them out. I cut a single piece to fit the bottom of the tank, and put scotch tape along the edges to keep insects from getting underneath. I put an extra strip in the bathroom area and change it daily!
