I phoned my local pet shop today to ask how to set up in a wooden viv...and he tells me you cant put a UTH in a wooden viv?????
and to use the lamp???? ... haaaa so thats 50.00 quid up the swanny????
can anyone advise using a wooden viv????

Depends on the Undertank heater with whether it can be used on wood or not. If you have the UTH set to a thermostat then it will definitely be fine on wood. A temperature of 90 will not burn wood...

ive been running some temp checks round the tank with the exoterra heat glow 60w buld today..and the reading are the baskling slate goes as high as 34deg... his hide 30deg... middle of the viv 27 deg ... the cold end of the viv 23 deg......

geckos dont need to bask in light, they absorb heat through their stomachs to aid digestion and vitamin intake. You'd be better punting the lamp and fitting on ebay and using the heatmat alone with the thermostat set to around 31c

also bright lights can stress out a gecko so if you decide to keep the lights get a red 15w pygmy bulb from b&q.
