My grandsons, ages 8 & 10, wanted to buy a leopard gecko, and their mother approved it for the oldest one's birthday - next year. They were so excited that I decided to buy one for them now - basically, self-preservation as they wouldn't stop talking about it and asking questions. I needed a break...lol...
We bought a used 40-gallon terrarium - like new for only $40, and it came with $45 of accessories - big win for us! Of course, this was only the beginning. You know how this goes...lol... To make a long story short, we discovered the Bio Dude's store just a 30-minute drive from us and his online videos. The Dude knows his stuff. We bought some goodies from him, including the substrate Terra Sahara. Very nice material to work with. Also, some accessories were bought online. Yesterday, the boys put it all together. See attached photos. The images are not the best, but they give you the general idea. We erred in buying several Cryptanthus plants as we discovered later that they require a high humidity - if they survive, OK. If not, such is life. The boys liked them. The Graptopetalum 'Murasaki" was a big win. Today, we go outside to see what we can find on the property. This is a learning project. We are waiting for the thermostat control to come in and the geckos. Finding the "right" geckos was a struggle. We went to pet shops and viewed several hundreds of photographs online. It was wearing me down...lol... Finally, we found chocolate albinos in California. The pair arrives Wednesday. Yes!!! Will keep you posted.
