Yeah, the sand is appealing, but I have seen that many places here that I should get rid of it. Plus it is pricey if you are going to actually dump all of it every week!

A couple questions: For slate or tile, how thick should it be? I have about 1 1/2" of sand right now and the sand in the warm hide is 85F. If I put in tile, won't it get a lot hotter than all that sand?

Also, how do you clean a slate tank? If you remove the droppings every day, do you need to pull the slate out to wash it, or how do you keep it clean?

Thanks for all your help. :main_yes:

Mine is cut into two pieces for each tank. Every weekend, I pull it out and wash (Nolvasan or antibacterial soap) it in the sink, dry it and replace it. I'm thinking about baking it in the oven monthly for a little extra cleanliness, until I acquire a hand-held steamer.

I don't think it has to be done once a week, but obviously that can't hurt. I was orginally told that as long as I spot clean when needed, I should only need to take the tile out for a full cleaning once a month.

I might be known by my friends as a bit....neurotic, shall we say? :anxious:
