I'm new into gecko world. My gecko is housed in a Exo terra tank. Most of the day it is inside it's hide. And during night which is close lights, that's the time it spend time outside it's hide. Whenever I open the room light it will start to go back to its hide again. Is there any light that I can use that my gecko will be comfortable to be with during night time. And also what color also. Just want to have a viewing light during night time in which my gecko is active. Thanks guys.

I use a purple looking light that's supposed to simulate moon light, they seem not to mind, and walk all around and I can watch them. :)

A couple vendors including the big name local pet stores carry "moonlight" bulbs. They usually put off a bit of heat but as long as you get a lower wattage bulb you should not have to worry about producing an amount of heat to overheat your cage.

Couple things to add:

re: light visibility
The blue/purple "moonlight" bulbs are entirely visible to geckos. The light they put out is well inside gecko visible spectrum. This is why those lights are very dim even at high-ish wattage. I don't like these as I can barely see anything when they are on in an otherwise dark room, which defeats the purpose.

The red/infrared night bulbs can only partially be seen by geckos. Gecko visible spectrum runs from outer range ultraviolet to mid range red. Their vision of red is not as complete as human's. They can, however, see some part of the light produced by these bulbs. How much and to what extent is still a point of debate that needs further research.

I have used both and currently my preference is to use the red bulbs on a dimmer. Dimmer set almost as low as it will go while still powering the bulb (like 10% power). This produces a dim light that I can see considerably better than a blue/violet moonlight bulb going full blast. Both of my geckos (one leo and one garg) have no issue with this.
