Nighttime heating

Hi all

Just a quick question about nighttime heating.

I've been reading that I should turn the temperature down at nighttime to simulate natural cycles.

Is this necessary if I have heat gradients across the vivarium.

The hot side is usually 32°c and the cool side 22°c.

I thought that if my leopard gecko gets to hot or cold he will move accordingly.

Cheers and I hope everyone is well

If you have UTH or equivalent providing a nice low 90's (F) temperature on one side on the floor I don't see any reason to do anything different at night. The ambient temperature will decrease naturally so the temperature a few inches above the floor will decrease at night anyway.

Hi Aliza

Hope you and yours are well.

Thanks for the reply.

I was thinking the same as you but I just needed to hear from an expert like yourself.

Carrot my gecko was one year old last week and I bought him a new hide. It's got step/ridges going up the sides and a relaxing flat top. But he doesn't go anywhere near it. He's becoming a little be suspicious of me too.

I also put in an Arcadia Mini 2.4 uvb light unit a week before. I have it on and hour in the morning and an hour at dusk.

I think I've introduced to much new stuff for him to cope with.

Anyhoo you take care.

Glad things are going relatively well. I find that the geckos go back and forth about what they like or don't like. One of my groups of 3 female leos has decided after 3 years that they're going to poop on the second floor instead of on the first floor so I had to move things around to be able to easily dispose of the results.
