Nile Monitor??

Im looking on info on Nile Monitors. I've searched the net but I'd like to hear from actual people. Are they a legal pet to get in the us? Or do I need and special license to own one? And how are thier temperments, Can they be as bad as I hear?

They are a legal pet in the pet trade. You need to check to make sure they are okay to keep in your area first.. They are pretty easy to find and cheap,98% are wild caught. Only 1 or 2 breeders in the US. They grow to be one of the largest monitor species in the world(6-7ft). They do have bad attitudes generally. I remember reading a article by a nile monitor breeder and they said even there CB ones were mean. I really wouldnt reccomend them, if you really want a monitor look into ackies, they stay smaller and generally freindly. Check out http://www.proexotics.com they breed them and have lots of good info on them..

DON'T DO IT! I had one several years ago that I'd have traded in for a Gator... They are nasty... Savannah Monitors make excellent pets on the other hand...

Oh I'm not getting one. My friend was sold one, but they didn't specify what one it was they themselves seemed to not know its a four foot female now and not to tempermental. But when they described it to me I told them what they really had on thier hands. I'm going up thier today to look at it myself I'm curious to see it myself. Their wanting to get rid of it now . Should I try going to the For Sale fourm on here? Would anyone want one? Or where else can I go to find a better suited home for it?
