How much space is between the bin and the shelf to prevent escapes? Or as long as there are air holes drilled in the bins, the bin goes almost flush against the shelf to prevent escapes? Does any one have any close ups pics of this? There's room to allow the bin to set on heat source as well and still have no escapes? I'm just thinking it's much easier to clean, feed etc by sliding out bins, then having to take off lids etc.

I think with the vision racks is has to be about 1/16 of an inch. I know I read in RT book, that he leaves 2/16, but 3/16 allows geckos to escape, and he claims he has never had one get out with the 2/16 method.

what do you mean by "flush"

I'll go snap a few

I use belly heat

Okay here is a pick of a few of the tubs in one of my racks

This isn't the best pic, but here is how much space is left in-between the top, and the box

Then the heat cable, is just run in lanes, and keeps in place with groves.

Then for the ventilation, there are wholes, on each level.

If I didn’t answer your question, let me know.

Flush=flat against the shelf/wall etc. Which with belly heat I would think there would have to be a tiny amount of space to allow the bin to rest on the tape/rope etc. I just couldn't get a good close up on the racks I looked at. I'm wanting to make hatchling racks that I can take down off hatchling season, but need to know space between bin and shelf. My idea is to use pegged melamine sides and be able to adjust shelf height as needed for hatchling/adults. But I haven't even gone to measure space between peg holes yet, so that might not even work. I haven't really looked at racks much to see if they come apart for storage etc?

Nick did you make those or buy them?

I bought these, they are vision racks. And honestly I cannot pick out a problem with them yet. I think they cost $404 after shipping (just rack, not tubs, or anything else) for an adult rack, and the 60 tub hatchlings racks cost about $1,000 after everything is set-up. But to me it is worth it, and the hatchling tubs are big enough to where you can grow a gecko to adult hood, and not have to worry about them. If your going to build one (cannot really tell you how, because I’m not handy at all) you might even consider using the vision hatchlings tubs that they sell, I think they are great.

Is your set up for both adults and hatchlings the same?

The pictures are of my adult rack.
