our second gecko is having problems. when we got it, it was healthy, it was mildly active. eating, pooping, easy to handle. out of nowhere it drops weight, weight it didn't have so much of to begin with due to it being so young. its poop is just a little white crumb type thing with some clear goop. i actually got it to eat the other day. since its so thin it can barely walk or hold it self up. i held a cricket with tweezers in front of it and it actually ate. i just watched him throw it up now. i can see his bones through its skin. eyes wont open, haven't been able to really open in a few days and when they do open, its either just one and not for long. i tried many things....

the guy at the pet store, granted he probably has no idea what he was talking about, i tried it anyway.

i put the gecko in a bowl of warm water. supposedly it was supposed to wake it up. he just fell asleep.

calcium power on his nose so he can lick it off. nothing... same with water. it wouldnt even lick it off.

there is a meal worm shortage right now. i was thinking about cutting up some wax worms and making the slurrie but if it wont even lick water off its nose how am i to know it will lick anything else off. i prettymuch ran out of ideas and i really dont want to lose another one.

Sounds like your gecko may have bigger issues than not eating. You should take him to a vet, sounds like he will need some meds. The slurry works really well, and will most likely help once the other problems are addressed. Hope he gets better!

My Gecko's are also not eating at the moment either,

A friend looked after them (well, kinda) for 6 months and I have just got them back and the one is really skinny (I can see his spine) and they are both refusing mealies and waxworms (at first when I got them back they had a few wax worms),

Im about to get some crickets but am worried that they might still refuse them,

Would they eat anything that isnt live? Can anybody advise from experience?

Also they both have their eyes half closed quite a bit,

They were in good health before I let my friend look after them - I feel so bad now :(

Any advice appreciated,

** also I am working during the day (untill monday) and the pet shop I have consulted for livefood can get the appropriate size crickets on tuesday (the ones in stall are way too big for them)

I have plent of mealworms but they are not eating - have also tried dusting in T-rex multivitamins - any other suggestions?

Try Marcia's Slurry, it works wonders on geckos that are sick or just plain not eating.

Also make sure the temperatures in their tank are correct, as they won't eat without proper belly heat, although from the sounds of it they have most likely been suffering from malnutrition from your friend for quite some time.

thanks for your reply,

I dont have a blender and dont know some of that stuff,

I noticed baby food in there - because of the mushy flavoured variety do you think a gecko might eat it on its own? Could try that until the small crickets are in stock- or may I could dip the mealworms in something for flavour?

You could try some warm chicken baby food. Just drop a little on the nose and it should lick it off. This will at least help get some nutrients into em, and may help get them more interested in eating again.

It wouldn't hurt to try dipping the worms in the baby food, I've never tried so I'm not sure if it would work or not, but it may make them more interested in the worms.

I have had to hand feed baby food to our geckos a lot lately due to the mealworm shortage and it being too hot here to get anything shipped in bulk (thankfully, we got a 1000 superworms that we are picking up tomorrow).

But anyway, I have heard that the chicken is good. Or turkey, or beef. I picked out some with chicken and vegetables, and beef with vegetables, because I figured the veggies would be good for them too. 90 percent of our leos ate the stuff eagerly. I hope the baby food works out for you, good luck!
