Not gaining weight?

I swear we're just not havig luck. We're doing everything we were told to do. But Chico just doesn't seem to be gaining weight at all, infact he's lost some weight since we got him. We've had him 2 weeks now. He's eating, just not gaining.


He shed about 4 nights ago and has been eating a cricket a day, maybe two. But he's gotten skinner. I know he shold be eating more than that. But after two he's just not interested.


Any ideas on things we can do to get him to eat more? He's keeping the crickets down and pooping fine. Just not gainging (and like I said he's lost weight). He's also been drinking fine and often.

I just want him to be nice fat and healthy!!!

Oh and I'd say he's about 5-7 weeks old. Just a baby.

How often are you feeding him? You can try giving one or two crickets at a time, twice a day instead of once.

we're dropping in about twice a day. Right now he has 3 in there and he's not even blinking an eye at them. Since he's not gaining weight we've been leaving at least 2 crickets in there for him to hunt down at night. But most times they just end up drowning in the water dish the next day.

It's almost like after two he's full and that's it. But it's obviously not enough or he wouldn't be losing, ya know? The crickets are pretty small too. Since he regurged the bigger ones. So it's not even like he's getting a nice full meal with two small crickets.


We were told today at this reptile place that the Gecko they have about Chico's age is eating 6-12 a DAY. That's what got me thinking. He doesn't eat near that all. Then I thought maybe he's full from his shed? But he's had a big poop since his shed so I'm assuming he's empty now?

My leo is still not eating?? If he does it's maybe one small cricket every few days. So he's pooping fine. But he's losing weight big time. Just getting very thin. I'm not sure what else to do?!

I would get him on slurry and get a fecal done on him to check for parasites. Good luck

Thanks. His stool is "normal". So I'm not worried about Parasites. But I do plan on phoning the Reptile Shop here in our town and asking if she has any advice and to get the Rep Vet that she uses, phone number. Going to give a call and see what can be done. Because I'd hate for the little guy to just shrink to death. I mean he'll eat, but only one or two crickets and that's nothing really. I'm also going to try to Slurry I think. I found it on here in the med section and hope my husband can make some as a last resort I guess.

Just because his poo looks normal doesn't mean that parasites are not present. If he isn't gaining weight I would get that checked (to at least eliminate one possibility). What are the temperatures in your tank?

A fecal would be a good thing to do. Sometimes problems are not visible without getting a test done. Just to rule it out, you should get it done.

temps on hot side are between 93-96F and cool side is around 72F He's on both sides equaly.

I'll ask the rep vet when I speak with her what she needs/wants. If they do find something do they give something to help him? Like meds or something??

If it's parasites or worms they can prescribe the proper treatment to get them out of its system. There's also an assortment of other medications they can prescribe depending on what is going on with the little guy.

If an animal has parasites, they may or may not be visible in the stool. Geckos can even eat normal amounts of food but get thinner. Parasites rob their body of nutrients, food, even blood. Eventually, if left untreated, their life. I would recommend you get a fecal test run, if for no other reason, but to rule out parasites. If parasites are the cause, you can then begin the proper vet recommended treatment.

Yes I'm looking for a vet. Also, I am bored so I decided to look at older posts and I don't look at the date I just checked the date of the older ones and they really are a few years old!
