Hi, everyone!

Haven't been on here for a while. My leopard gecko is going on 3 years old - she's awesome! Anyone have experience with butter worms? I've never fed 'em to her, but I'd like to spruce up her diet. She's only eaten mealworms (I breed the darkling beetles myself), crickets & wax worms. How fatty are the butter worms? How often is it safe to feed them?

Thanks in advance, guys! :main_thumbsup:

Welcome back. Some people have reported that their geckos had bad experiences with butterworms because of some caustic liquid in their bodies that burned their mouths. I have no personal evidence or experience with this, but when I tried them a few years ago no one liked them. I've had very good luck with hornworms and silkworms.

Thanks for the info! I'm kinda skeptical about trying them now. This is one of those instances where the if-it-isn't-broken-don't-fix-it motto comes into play - she has a great appetite now, so maybe I should just leave her diet the way it is. I wanted to try silk worms too, but they seem a bit expensive. Plus, I live in New York City - there are no distributors close by -_-

Do you recommend any other foods?

Thanks! :D

I get a lot of mileage out of superworms and I order silkworms online. People also use dubia roaches successfully (online, again) but that's a no-no in my house.

I totally agree. I refuse to feed dubia roaches, simply because I'm afraid they'll get loose. I've had way too many instances where I come home to empty, knocked over cricket/darkling enclosures because of my cats. Then I'll see random crickets hopping across my floor for weeks. It doesn't really bother me, but the roaches would just make me squirm.

Thanks again for the info! I'm gonna order some silk worms & see how that goes.
