Hello, I have a question about some of my leos. I decided to get into the hobby, bout a year ago. I've been slightly concerned about some of my leos that I obtained from reptilesmack. They are the 1st ones I got, I've had them for 7-8 months now and they have not grown hardly any at all. There are 4 total all from mack and all seem to have the same issue. I have researched it thoroughly, its not crypto or anything crazy like that, they would be in bad shape if it was. They are housed properly, & fed well with the calcium supp. They are not lethargic, they actively hunt, shed well, are not skittish. Absolutley no clues other than the fact they are still the size of a 3 month old gecko, but they are at least 7 months old. Their tales are porportionate to there body, not skinny at all. I do weigh them and they cant get past 15g, the will lose a gram then gain a gram every week. I really think I have a case of failure to thrive- bad genetics. I really hope that isnt the case, because Im aware that there is nothin I can do. I need you input on the situation. Thanks

I've had this happen once -- I sold a gecko to my neighbor down the street and the gecko seems to have maxed out at 23 grams. I know it's being fed and housed appropriately. I also have a gecko who's one of my breeders who tops out around 40 grams. She eats well, and I hand-feed her extra.
I'd recommend getting a fecal sample and taking it to a vet in case there are low level parasites that are compromising them.

I'd second what Aliza says about parasites. I've found pinworms in lots of the babies I've gotten from other breeders and, because of this, now deworm all of my geckos annually. Many of the common food sources we use (crickets, mealworms and possibly roaches) can carry pinworms or other parasites and pass them on to your gecko even if you are the most conscientious breeder/owner ever. If you got more than one gecko from the same place and they are all growing in the same way I would assume parasites or something other than bad genetics. Good luck getting to the bottom of it!
