Noticable Lack of Worms

This is a rant, but as usual, it's about something I have no power over, but can't help but feel someone else should. Friday I went to a chain petstore that's closer to my house than the little one I work at. I needed some more small supers and possibly some waxworms for Tiamat. Well their shelves were empty, and when I asked about when they would possibly get another shipment in I was told that the one that they ordered had gotten lost in shipping and they were expecting another shipment in a few days. So I was like...okay. So I went to my work place, same situation except that our cricket breeder couldn't find a plane with a heated cargo bay to ship the crickets up from Kelowna (a town a few hours south from us). I wasn't really mad at our store, but seriously, with this time of year you'd think there would be atleast ONE freakin' plane with a heated cargo bay.

So now we're expecting a guy who works for the cricket breeder to drive up from Kelowna with our shipment of crickets and worms, but they didn't give us any time other than "sometime Tuesday". When I worked yesterday I had so many customers copping an attitude because our shelves were devoid of crickets as if it were my fault! I told them I sympathized with them because I have a leopard gecko who really loves her superworms and I was hoping to give her a feast for Christmas. Luckily I have plenty of crickets and LOTS of mealworms but still....It sucks having only two stores in the entire city that sell this sort of thing.

Wow

I never would have thought about what a drag it would be living in an area that can have a cold environment while at the same time owning Lizards.

I had a couple of times had problems with getting mealworms so I decided to raise my own ... just so I do not run out.

I do not have the space for crickets but, I am thinking about Roaches or Superworms.

Sorry to hear about the problem. I feel for those people who need the insects to feed their pets.

I've been considering colonizing my own mealies and supers, although I hear supers are harder to breed.

It's not like Tiamat would starve, I have some crickets and plenty of mealies on hand. Thankfully, when I went into the store today they had finally got their shipment in. So now I have my waxies and supers. The superworms are a bit bigger than I normally get though. She managed to eat two of them! She's a miniature pig with scales!

And yeah. I didn't think about how challenging it would be to keep a reptile this far north until I started having problems keeping my tank at a decent temp.
