Novas

So I've been thinking about selling my male raptor until tonight when I had a idea, yes ladies and gentlemen I had some smoke coming out my ears lol.

I'm tossing up the idea of getting a female nova. I would of course get a hatchling as I've found them for a really good price online. I have another tank that I will set up for her a 15gal so she will live solo until I get her up to weight.

I've been reading alot on the enigma syndrome and this is where i would like enigma owners and enigma combo morph owners to chime in.
So I've been seeing alot of enigma syndrome things being discussed. I want to know how your experience as a enigma owner has been.

Like how many you have and how many exhibit the syndrome and how bad is it. I love the way novas look and with me already having a raptor if I breed her to my male I should get half raptors and half novas.

I'd love to have a setup like a 30gal breeder with 3 females in it all the time. This is gonna be a display tank and I plan on keeping them until the man upstairs says it's time for them to go. I love the way novas look that's why I want to breed one to my raptor incubate for all females and keep 3 of them together for good. I'm only gonna breed the female once to my raptor male. I can't afford to buy 3 female novas at once or I would just do it that way.

So what seems to be your thoughts on this idea and your experiences of actually owning enigmas.

I've owned a spider ball python before and they basically have the same problems as enigmas. The spider I had barely showed the symptoms, only when eating he showed it but he ate perfectly fine and never missed a meal. The only reason why I got rid of him was I got out of snakes for good as they took up too much room and the wife was extremely scared of them.

I am sure tho with enigmas that everyone will be different and there is a chance that it may be so bad that it can affect it's chance of survival and I'm ready to deal with that as I took the chance before with the spider.

They are just very beautiful animals and I am ready to take the chance, it's not like they will be bred they will be pets only. I just want to hear your experiences with them.
I thought maybe with the enigma gene being involved with other genes like the raptors that maybe the syndrome wouldn't be so bad since it's not a straight enigma but actually a combo morph.

I will be buying the female from a big breeder who i trust in their efforts of selective breeding. I don't think he would breed enigmas showing the syndrome really bad and I believe if anything he does try to improve the gene pool and remove the bad ones from the breeding program. It's gonna be at least a week or two before I order one so there is plenty of time for us to talk about this.. Thanks in advance guys..

I have produced spinners and I have produced ones that do not show signs of spinning.

I just found out that my nicest Cremesicle Enigma I produced last year and sold to a friend started spinning recently. SO I am up in the air about it. I have been told by some that any enigma can be forced to spin and if they stress out enough it will cause it. So anything really could trigger it if that is the case.

I love enigmas and Work with them still I should have a bunch of Cremesicle Enigmas and Super Snow Tremper Albino Enigmas hatching soon. I have yet to have on start spinning right out of the egg.

How many enigma morphs do you have? Have you had any that showed the syndrome so bad you needed to cull? I really like the novas and just enigmas in general, I know it's a chance I'm gonna take and I'm fine with that. I just wonder how you guys have experienced it. You know first hand experience is what I want to hear.

I think alot of info I have seen online has been from people who don't own enigmas, I'd rather trust you guys then any joe schmoe off a google search.
I trust you guys on here to supply solid truthful info that's why I always ask here when I need to find out the truth.

Thanks for chiming in I appreciate it..

I was having the enigma discussion with a large local breeder here in S. Florida. We both agree that every enigma we've seen has SOME degree of "syndrome" to it. I personally own 3 enigmas out of 8 geckos total, and each one has a different kind of symptom. My oldest, and most-bred enigma is the one who's the worst. She has a head tilt, spins, and is totally off the mark when she eats. She seems to get around okay though. She hasn't produced a hatchling for me, and i'm not sure she'll be breeding anymore so I can't comment on her offspring. My nova is a little wobbly in the legs when she walks, but otherwise fine. And my dreamsicle seems okay, but i've only had him for a few weeks.

I think a lot of the enigmas are either born with the syndrome right away, or develop it later on in life when they start to mature and/or are bred.

I thought that maybe when more genes are combined with the enigma that it may reduce the symptoms some. I know I'm going to take a chance with getting a nova but I like them so much. It's just like the spider ball python they both make beautiful combo morphs but at the same time you never know how bad the symptoms are gonna be.

I appreciate you guys chiming in and hopefully some of the bigger breeders can chime in here with their experiences also. It would be nice for this to turn into a big long multi page thread so alot of people can see this if they are thinking about getting enigma combo morphs..
