Odd nasal deformity

When this one hatched four weeks ago, something didn't look quite right about the tip of her nose. As she has aged, however, a gap has been forming which seems to encompass what should be her nostril. The tissue shows no apparent signs of infection, and it does not appear to be affecting her ability to eat. My fear is that the gap will continue to expand until it does start affecting her abilities and health. I'm wondering if it's similar to the cleft lip seen in some humans. Anyhow, I just thought I'd share some pictures and pick some brains as to what may have caused it and what the prognosis may be.

It does look a bit like a cleft lip. I've never seen anything like it. For once - I have no theories! Maybe someone else has seen it?

Did you say it's getting bigger?

Wow this is odd. Does look a lot like cleft lip tho. Maybe there was a temp flux around the time the nasal passages were being formed? Who knows eh? I highly doubt it was a vitamin supplement problem...possibly the right genes lined up at the right time? You've never had a problem with this pair before Paul?

Yep, it's definitely getting bigger. When she hatched, her nose just had some odd dark pigment toward the tip, which you can still see somewhat, but I didn't notice any sort of gap--at least nothing like what she has now. None of the other babies from this pair were less than 100% perfect. Also, I highly doubt that temperature fluctuations played a part simply because the incubator stays VERY consistent.

I had a hatchling once that came out with both nostrils that were 'open' all the way down to the upper lip, exposing her gums. Although it looked freaky, but it didn't get any worse. I have no clue what could cause it, but I would be concerned that yours is getting bigger. Hmmm...

I figured I would post some updated photos of this girl. The "gap" doesn't appear to have gotten any bigger, and it still doesn't seem to be affecting her "daily life". She is now at 38 grams.

I think she was getting a little self-conscious and decided to cover up her "flaw" with her tongue for this picture. :p

Since it doesn't appear that it will be a hindrance to her, what do you guys think about me putting her up for adoption?
