Odd rash on bottom of tail.

A friend contacted me about an odd rash on the tail of a gecko she has. I produced this animal and it has had no problems until now. There have been no changes in the cage or housing. Nothing to cause an irritant to the skin has been found. Her UTH is fine. Has anyone seen a rash like this. It is only on the bottom of the tail and the back feet. I've never personally encountered this before, and not sure what route to go. Obviously we're trying to find a known fix before the vet visit if it's required. View attachment 31124

those are not real large or close up photos but just from a glance it looks like a possible burn.

One of my geckos had a lesser rash like that... smaller in area... but it looked the same. She got it from a bad shed.

Have you checked that there are no hot spots in the tank? Since the back legs are also red, I suspect it could be burn also. Shedding is possible too.

Is she using a homemade humid hide? Like a margarine container with sharp edges.maybe as she is going in and out she has been rubbing on the edges. There is no way a UTH can cause a burn like that if in fact it is a burn

just for your information a uth can cause burns like that. especially if it is not connected to a thermostat. burns are one of the most common reptiles injuries. they can not only cause external damage but sometimes internal damage too and are very prone to infection.

I was thinking it's a burn as well, I'm positive there is no cut there. I'll try to get some better pics up. This is the only one that she sent me. Today she had said that it's looking much better. Thanks guys.

I will. I haven't had anything like that myself so I was unsure also. I've been leaning towards the UTH issue myself. I can't think of anything else it could be.
