Odor attraction.

Just a quick question which is something I've been pondering for a while.

Are leo's attracted to any odors? Like aromas that food would give off?

Figured it was worth a try.

I've heard leo's can smell their food, but as far as being attracted to any other odors, I don't know/think so, not from what I've seen, but maybe other people have other experiences.

Well, there are definitely certain smells/tastes that they don't seem to like at all (with my leo some species of feeders get one quick sniff/lick with his tongue and he won't even bother trying to eat them), and it seems pretty likely that they like or dislike certain odors on your hands (soap = icky, cake batter = sort of interesting :main_laugh: ). I don't know how close or strong a scent has to be for them to smell/taste it though.

I don't know if this had anything to do with odor or taste, but seems to fit what you were asking in a way.

A while back we were waiting for mealworms to come in from Grubco and needed some. The gas station down the street normally has bait and I had grabbed some kind of red mealies by accident rather than the normal ones. One bite of these red ones and they wouldn't eat anymore. Some actually spat them out. Must've tasted that bad. Needless to say, if I buy from there I make sure I double check the container.
