I had to take 2 geckos to the vet last week: Yahli (retired female breeder) had a respiratory infection and mouth rot due to mouth-breathing. Sunny (male breeder) had a prolapsed hemipenis which I had been able to get back in with karo syrup as well as an impaction in the other hemipenis. Came back with antibiotics for both of them and warm soaks as well for Sunny. Yahli has enigma syndrome so she does barrel rolls every time I medicate her. Unfortunately, Sunny's hemipenis came back out over the weekend, so he went back to the vet yesterday. He had to have the prolapse amputated and the vet cleared out the impaction also. He came through it like a trouper aided by lidocaine (like novacain) during the surgery and an injection for the pain before going home. He will not breed again this season. Ironically, he was with the only female who ovulated and looks gravid. He is doing well now in his little hospital cage and will spend the rest of the season after he recovers alone in his own decent sized cage.
